The stand your ground laws have been identified in the paper as a sign of hate groups by a person writing to the editor of my local paper.

But what is a person to do instead? Run? Run forever?

Some where long ago, I read, they will always be someone bigger and stronger than you! That is why God invented the .38.

I dunno - common sense maybe? Think with the big head instead of the little one? Don't bring a gun to a popcorn fight?

Or you could live in Russia and get beat up, taken hostage, fed viagra, and raped for 3 days by the woman you were trying to rob.

I would totally rob that chick by the way.

I think you should be able to defend yourself, 100%, but I also think you have a responsibility to remove yourself from the equation if it's an option.

I think the shooter in the movie theater recently is a perfect example. The guy he shot wasn't armed (unless you count popcorn) and there were no punches thrown. This was not a case where you should be able to claim stand your ground. He got into an argument with the guy, and if he had an opportunity to just leave, that should have been his play. If you carry, and you are out in public, you should first try to walk away. If the person will not allow that option, that's when you can defend yourself, or your family.

Or you could live in London where the murder rate is at a 42 year low, where a total (yes, TOTAL) of 99 people were killed in London. Gun murders were 14. Not per day, for the whole year.

If everyone carried guns those 99 murders could have been prevented.

Stand your ground, but only if the other guy is armed. You can shoot a guy wielding a knife. Fists? Run away.

I guess I don't quite see the furor in this. I mean, look at the scrutiny Zimmerman had in a pretty clear self-defense (not "SYG") case, and I have a hard time thinking that this guy will get off by claiming it. So what if the defense tries it?

Now, if 6 months from now he goes free b/c of it, I'll happily join the debate. But he might as well be claiming his right to free speech right now. B/c I think it applies just as much.

Can't run, bad Knee from previous action. Besides leaving the grand kids to their fate just doesn't set right. Stand seems to be the only acceptable option no matter what the MF brings.

I don;t mind at all if that is your choice, might even pay to watch. However, it would be very stupid to expect the majority to take the same alternative.

I wouldn't let things escalate to violence. I wouldn't stalk someone even if I thought they were a burglar. It just isn't worth it. Let the cops do their job.

You're the one who can't run away.
