Adrian Wojnarowski ✔ @WojYahooNBA Chicago is finalizing deal to send Marquis Teague to the Brooklyn Nets for forward Toko Shengelia, league sources tell Yahoo Sports. Hahahahaha Luxury Tax. Money over basketball. They're not going to use 15 roster spots. They'd prefer to not have 13 on the roster.
Sorry, you mentioned roster slots. I'm sure that, knowing the rather severe basketball limitations placed on teams over the cap and repeat over-the-cappers, you agree that it's in the best interests of the on-court product that the team not pay any luxury tax this season. Then again, maybe not. Sent from my GT-P1010 using Tapatalk 2
I just found it hilarious. "Not a problem." I still want to see someone in a position of authority say, "whatever it takes" instead of making excuses.
I've heard some people who like his game. I've honestly never seen him play. I don't think you should dismiss him so easily though. There are all kinds of reasons why a player might not get playing time in New Jersey but could be an asset elsewhere.
OK, here's a short clip from his best game in the NBA. It was 4/15/13 against the Wiz when he recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 25:25. I like this trade. Teague was a lost cause and it's better to have an extra million in Cap Space this offseason than Teague's contract lingering on the books. I'm going on the record now as forgiving GarPax if Teague somehow blows up on the Nets. If it happens it happens. (Although I'm not losing sleep over it). In addition to his contract, there are some reasons to like Toko over Teague. 1). His name is awesome. Between him and Cartier Martin we have the most mellifluous bench in the NBA. 2). I can't imagine he'll get any minutes, but his highlights give you the impression he's a gamer, albeit an untalented one. I'll take that over Teague, who played like he needed to change out of his pull-ups whenever he left the court. I get the impression his playing style is somewhere between Nocioni and Kirilenko. No reason to expect much from him, but he's become one of my favorite guys on the team.
I bet he plays like Nocilenko. And about as many minutes. Frankly, I expect he is gone at the end of the season. The move saves the Bulls about $400K. Enough to pay the Chairman's pilot.
This effectively covers Forman's mistake of picking up Teague's option for next season. As for Toko, I think he'll be great in practice, all energetic and stuff, and Thibodeau will love him.
