rick, not to downplay your career on a girl's softball team ( ) but I doubt you generated nearly the torque and bat speed as a MLB player...Tex will be fine.
I'll agree, but again, I needed full mobility and dexterity to do my job... had to do it in 3-4 months... him being a professional athlete should be the same... he needs full mobility and dexterity....
And for what it's worth... He's already expected to miss time due to this... spring training yes, but still... http://www.pinstripealley.com/2014/1/21/5329970/mark-teixeira-injury-wrist-surgery-yankees-spring-training-2014
...everybody recovers at different rates and I know it has been reported that he may miss some ST games, but I'd rather him do that than rush back too quickly and mess his wrist up again...and like I said, I'd be really concerned if there was pain, but there's not. Hopefully, the stiffness subsides the longer he rehabs.
no, I didn't... but I had my wrists open, stuff played with... you need a month or two to heal and a month or two to rehab... shouldn't be much more then that
...like Bautista, Tex had surgery on a sheath in his wrist, which is not very well vascularized and so it does not get the blood supply that some other procedures do. Like a golfer's wrist injury/surgery, this is not something that you mess around with and rush back too quickly. And like I said, the torque required to swing a bat or a golf club with authority and confidence makes it even more critical. ...if Tex were some sort of punch and judy hitter it would be different, but hell, you've seen him swing, he doesn't get cheated with his swings.
Translation = the first few weeks will then be like spring training for him. So we can all expect ANOTHER 200 hitting slow start for him.
...I have never considered Tex being a slow starter as a big deal...I mean does it matter that for his career he's been a .766 OPS for the first month or so of the season while being a .900+ OPS for the rest of the season? ...I'd much rather a player finish well rather than start well.
But over the last 4 FULL seasons his offensive #s across the board have been dropping. This is not going to improve that.
...I didn't comment on his last 4 seasons, I commented on the "200 hitting slow start". HA! ...you go get your shoe shine box and gimme my damned Chee-tos !
Just to make a point.............. 2008 = 308 BA, 410 OBP, 552 SLG%, 962 OPS, 152 OPS+ 2009 = 292 BA, 383 OBP, 565 SLG%, 948 OPS, 141 OPS+ 2010 = 256 BA, 365 OBP, 481 SLG%, 846 OPS, 124 OPS+ 2011 = 248 BA, 341 OBP, 494 SLG%, 835 OPS, 121 OPS+ 2012 = 251 BA, 332 OBP, 475 SLG%, 807 OPS, 115 OPS+ So if he hits 240 this year with a 300 OBP a 450 SLG% & a 775 OPS & a 100 OPS+ it'll be okay as long as he has a strong finish?
...I'm quite aware of his stats...but would you like to make a wager that he doesn't do better than that?
Just an added piece of clarity (see bold)... and in 2013 it was 15 games... and he's seen a decrease in walks too... so it's not like he's being pitched around...
Tell me where to send them & I'll ship you 6 large bags of Chee-toes. IF his #s exceed my predictions. And sorry, I don't shine sandels. I also wouldn't want to get any polish on your white knee high socks.
It doesn't seem like the doctor is concerned by his comment to Tex that it will keep getting looser and stronger. Seems like it would be kind of expected with this kind of surgery. I'm sure he will be fine.
