...uhhh, "hiding shame about their sexuality" is one thing and is an emotional problem in and of itself... but flapping your arms while proclaiming your sexual preference is another thing. A person's preferences need not be broadcast to the whole world. ...once again, you fail to grasp the crux of point.
...Jesus- fucking- tap -dancing Christ...do you have ANY fucking idea what this thread is about?...do you EVER actually take the time to read what has actually been said? ...this is not about sexual preference or homophobia...it is about people getting on a soap box and purposely making it known what their preference is...and why they feel the need to do so. Do heterosexuals feel the need to do the same thing?...No, and why?...because again, it's unnecessary. ...again, try taking the time to actually read and take things in their proper context. I don't give 2 shits whether someone wants to have sex with a man or a woman...instead, this topic is about why an individual's preference is not kept private, where it should be.
BINGO... the point of this thread isn't that that their preference is right or wrong... it is that it shouldn't matter and shouldn't be broadcast... you want to live your life, fine, but don't tell everyone and then expect an award for it... I don't care what you say or feel about the subject... it is that it shouldn't be talked about... it shouldn't be a big deal... Tebow is chastised for publicly proclaiming his faith... so why is that wrong, yet publicly stating your sexual preference is an award winning move????? That is what I have an issue with... not that someone is or isn't gay
No, this is much much worse. This is a man that just used his sexual orientation as a weapon of influence and manipulation. Did you read the story about his dad being surprised? Look, now if he falls in the draft or isn't drafted at all there will be calls of bigotry and racism and protests against the NFL. Might as well change Washington's team name to the Rainbowskins. What he is doing is taking the limelight, not based on his talent and what he can contribute to the organization he purportly wants to join. OK, he gets drafted, if he doesn't start when he wants to, will the coaching staff be labeled? He plays and takes a violent hit, will the player be charged with a federal hate crime? Labels divide, the folks that wave these flags know it. This isn't about righting perceived wrongs, this is about retribution. Sports represent some of the last bastions of traditional Americana, the NFL has been the next target. Before anyone decides to throw a label at me, only one fits...I'm an American.
Well put Totus. And unfortunately you could be right about his status in the game. If he doesn't start or plays much or even if he's cut you just know some group is going to say it's because he's gay. So all this did & I hope I'm wrong is put pressure on the coaches to make sure (whether he's worthy or not) that he gets more of a chance to make a team. Otherwise you just know that someone will label that coach as a bigot.
Exactly... I don't need to hear about it... and I would even remove the congratulations... I'd say, You're gay, play football and move on... being gay isn't something that deserves an award... it is what it is... but we don't need to hear about it nor should we hear about it... all that matters is if and how you can plan
Like I said, should be an issue.... That being said... do you think this announcement will help or hurt him in the draft? Do you think teams will clamor all over him to be the first team to have that openly gay player? Do you think teams will want to avoid the media circus that may follow having the first openly gay player? I don't think it should be a story no matter what, just curious how it will impact everything
I've got to be honest they're a few words that have for some reason ALWAYS stumped me. Then & Than is a perfect example. And without appearing to look like a complete moron Their & There is another one that I ALWAYS screw up on. So with that said I'm not ashamed to say, now that Ron has helped me on Than & then, help me out now on their & there. I think THERE is as a location. EXAMPLE: I put my coat over THERE. And THEIR would be " Is their any cake left" Or do I have it backwards?
...no worries, rick...we know what you mean. ...but maybe this will help; http://www.better-english.com/easier/theyre.htm
Unbelieveable. You all say I don't read the thread or this is not what the topic is about....but you guys are way off base. Have you ever been discriminated because of something? Unfortunately in the real world if you are not "normal" you have an unbelievable disadvantage over someone who is considered "normal" What this young man is stating is that he is proud that he is gay, that everyone should know that he will not hide it and that he will break through the ceiling as a proud gay man. He will not hide the fact that he is gay because it may persuade a team for not taking him based on his sexualitiy. No rumors..no whispers...no...he is gay, now base the facts on whether he deserves to be on the team by his ability. Why was Jackie Robinson a story that is hailed as a great accomplishment? This is the same thing, for since the beginning of time for one reason or another people have been discriminated against. Whether it was race, religion and sexual preference. He is standing up against prejudice. He is showing others that don't be afraid, don't hide your choice because others find it shamefull or a disgrace or god forbid different than the majority of society. If he fails it should be based on his ability to play football. Why is this a story...wow. Imagine if a gay person tried to run for presidency...OMFG would the world stop turning....why...because of how fucked up people think. That is why it would be a story. Not because he fucks a guy in the ass..but because the majority of the world would think he doesn't deserve to be president because of where he sticks his penis.
Al seriously, Jackie Robinson is the same thing? Really you mean there were really other black baseball players who were just pretending to be white? NO!!! This is not even close to being the same. They're MANY gay athletes, they're just not coming out like this guy is. There were NO other blacks in baseball Robinson was the first. My god man do you really think they're the same thing? HOLY SHIT! And speaking of other gay athletes they're in the closet for several reasons, one of which COULD BE is because IT"S NO ONES FUCKING BUSINESS. And read post #27 & tell me that none of that is possible. Jackie Robinson. To say this was a really dumb analogy would be a MAJOR understatement.
I have no doubt that there could be the possibility on what was said in post #27. But to pretend that the gay community is not frowned upon, thought differently and held back is sticking your head in the sand. What I believe he is trying to say to other athletes is to not be afraid, not be ashamed of who you are that there are others out there in the same environment, that are trying to achieve their goals. If you don't think that a gay athlete deals with hatred by fellow athletes you are so mistaken. There are athletes who have come out and said that they wouldn't want to shower with a gay teammate. Why....why is that...is he afraid that gay athlete is going to drop the soap and expect something. No..its being fearful and ignorant. Im not going to change anyone's opinion, but the fact is, ENOUGH people thought it was a story to report on it and to talk about it. If it was such a non story guess what it wouldn't make the news nationwide. Hey 59, your right, the rest of the world is wrong. Non Story..time to move on.
Bottom line for paragraph 2 is that whether they're in the closet or out there are MANY gay athletes, In April of 1947 there was only ONE (1) black baseball player. Like I said, no comparison.
