thanks. This probably wouldnt work much for me as I was thinking more of just use at home. Where you are on a freaking plane all the time appreciate the link though FAMS!
I don't have a mini. I see them at the Apple store and wish I had one. I have a retina iPad. The idea of the 11" MacBook Air instead of a tablet is worth strong consideration. If iOS is what you want, then tablet is the choice. If tiny, long battery life, OS quality apps (iWork, etc) and desktop browser is what you want, then MacBook Air is a better choice. I personally find typing on the pop up iOS keyboard to be a far inferior experience for composing posts, etc., than a real keyboard. If you're carrying around a Bluetooth keyboard to use with a tablet, I really think the MacBook route is way better.
the whole point of a tablet is to be able to quickly surf the net while chillin on a couch, standing up in an airport waiting for your flight, reading on a plane or elsewhere. Its superior because you can lie down and use it to browse and surf really casually.
If you go with an IPad mini say 32 gig can you upgrade it at anytime or are you stuck with what you get?
stuck with what you get. you can do a bluetooth hard drive though, but then you'd always have to take that with you.
The best value proposition is either get the 16gb or the 128gb. The others in between are less valuable per GB of storage. I got a 128 because I'm a douche with a small penis.
Yeah, I got the 16GB. I don' really download my movies to watch on it that frequently so its not a huge deal to me.
That's the best way to decide. "Do I stream a lot or do I collect files?" "Do I play a shit ton of big 2gb games?" Etc.
I was right there, and then I was like, "But for an extra $100 I'll have a whole 64GB more, when I was going to pay $100 for 32GB more before... And 112GB extra for $300 more is like only $2.75 per GB instead of $4.10 per GB to go from 16 to 64..."
The 16G or whatever you have is used for music and videos you want to carry around, sure. But it's also used for your browser cache, for your apps, for your apps' data. That includes your text messaging, email, etc. To give you an idea of what the space might be used for, my iPad is using: TapaTalk HD (to browse this site): 75MB Messages: 200MB (text messages) Mail: 200MB Photos: 1GB DirecTV (awesome remote control app): 236MB NBA Game Time: 90MB Netflix: 65MB If you install Apple productivity software (it's free): Pages, Numbers, Keynote combined 1.3GB And so on. I travel a bit for work, so I like to be able to load a handful of movies onto the iPad to watch while waiting at the airport or during the flight. I did an east coast round trip flight and watched the Godfather trilogy. To have enough movies to have something of a choice what to watch, I figure takes me 10G or so. Airports and on flights is a situation where you might not want to pay for bandwidth to stream video - it's expensive. You'll also need enough free space to download and install iOS updates. If you ever don't have enough space, you'll have a lot of fun (NOT!) figuring out how to make enough space freed. If you want to be able to freely install apps that you might find useful, bigger is better. FWIW
Not that it is related to what to buy, but Pages, Numbers, etc aren't free. I think you are thinking of the update from last year that was a free upgrade. The apps themselves are still $9.99 on the App Store. Having had the retina iPad and now a Nexus 7, I have to say I really like the smaller form factor. I know the mini is similarly sized to the N7, just a different aspect ratio, so if I was choosing between the Air and Mini, I'd have to go w/ the Mini. Since there is no expandable/upgradable storage, I try to go for the version with the most capacity. I would also say think about paying the extra $100 or so for the LTE version. Then just go to T-Mobile, get a free Sim and you'll have 200MB/month free. 200MB obviously isn't much, but it's great knowing that if in a pinch, I could use the tablet w/o wifi. Then, if you need more than the 200MB, you can just buy a 1GB block for 10 bucks or something.
