well the torts fall out has begun in vancouver, not surprised. a premier center wants to hit the market.:MARIS61::MARIS61: http://nhl.si.com/2014/02/26/report-ryan-kesler-requests-trade-from-vancouver-canucks/
I thought about a sign and trade with Cally there. However, I'm sure Cally was one of the guys who wanted Torts gone at the end of last year. I also believe Cally is real close with his family and he's not going to play way over there. I would not trade Miller who is 20 in a deal for Kesler who makes a lot of money. The two teams are really not a match. Plus Kesler is a UFA after another couple of years and I don't think he's a NY guy. I still think the Ducks, Kings, Blues or Penguins are the best match for a rental deal.
Best thing about Kesler is he does not make a lot of money. He has two more years left on his deal at a 5 mill cap hit only. So his contract is a huge plus since he doesn't make a lot of money. So we can control him the next two seasons as we really go for it. Would I deal a Miller or Stepan in a package for Kesler, I would given the fact that he doesn't make a lot of money, and we control him for two more seasons after this one. As for this trade DL being active, I will believe it when I see it. A week before the DL a ton of big names are always thrown around, and usually most of them never get moved. Cally, Kesler, MSL, Vanek, Miller, maybe Girardi, Ott, Moulson. We'll see how many of these big names really move next week. I will put my money on very few.
Kesler with Nash and Kreider would be a tough line to deal with. Then if you grabbed Stastny for the 2nd line that would be a solid 1-2 punch next year and beyond.
I'm a Kesler guy so i'd be all for trading him. If it costs Stepan, so be it. He (Stepan) is not all that great where you can't afford to trade him.
Stasny is a possibility for this offseason, a Kelser trade is a lower possibility, but tying that much money up in both will never happen. Hopefully.
after Statsny the centers available drops off significantly, which means he's going to get a nice, fat contract that will likely not align with our needs. This means if we trade for Kesler we'd need to do so without giving up Stepan who we'll need as the 2nd line C next year.
I actually think there is a match with Vancouver for Kesler for Stepan. I would absolutely trade Stepan for Kesler....I think AV loves Kesler too, he did well in his system. Stepan is a good young player but Kesler is a better fit here and you still get 2 more seasons of Kesler at $5m after this. This one makes sense for both teams I agree it doesn't solve our #2C problem when Richards is bought out but it's still a move I make
Wow. Differing reports from players camp and team whether he is actually available but as chuck likes to say where theres smoke usually fire follows. That being said if stepan somehow gets us kesler this imo would be a no brainer. Waiting with abated breath to see if boomers prophecy of cally gone before tonights game comes true
Stastny won't get more than 7m with his numbers, so basically you're replacing Richards money with a better player and lesser term. Most of the upper echelon teams have about 11-12m tied up in their top 2 centers so you get what you put into it imo. They'd still have enough to give raises to the RFA's and sign Stralman and maybe a depth player.
Yeah but those teams dont also have 7.8m tied up in a winger and 8.5 tied up in their goalie. Pass on Stasny at 7m which he is gonna get (if Kesler comes here)
I hear you, and they would have alot of money tied up in 4-5 players, but that would be very strong down the middle with Brassard and Lindberg also. I'm just not really sold on Stepan long term but maybe it's just an off year for him. If they did deal for Kesler I think he's the player Vancouver would want going back though.
Yea, VAN is going to want a player who's ready to step into the roster and contribute right away, at least that's per the link in the OP. That takes away Lindberg, Fast and others in the farm and squarely puts Stepan as a top candidate to go.
Hagelin and Allen? Unfortunately it would probably have to be Hagelin and Miller and not sure I want to do that if we're also losing Cally
Kesler did break his hand apparently, so the odds of this are reduced even further, probably a 10% chance i'd think. I don't think they'd do it for those two 223 but maybe they could keep Miller and send Kristo and pick with Stepan instead.
It's strange, Keslers numbers aren't all that much greater than Stepans but I guess he's a better all-around leader and physical player. Gartner used to talk about him like he was the next great thing.
