I feel like someone has posted on this before, but maybe not.

I am going in July. Where places do I need to check out? I will be stopping by some "coffee" shops to quench my thirst. That's about all I know at this point.

Oh, and the Van Gogh Museum - this is a must.

Well, thanks for NOT answering my question!

You always say this place would go to hell without you, but I don't really know how that rings true with such poor contributions such as the above, FAMS!

Walking around is pretty nice. Just don't get hit by a tram. I spent 2 days there back in '05, so I'm sure a bunch has changed, but we went to the Heineken Experience, Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum.

Looks like the Rijksmuseum just finished a 10 year renovation, so it is probably a lot nicer (and bigger) than when I went.

Thanks. How was the Heineken Experience? I saw this and was kinda wondering how it was. I used to drink a Heineken quite a bit back in the day (only cheaper beer I could ever drink - I can't drink the domestic cheap swill, aka Miller, Bud, or Coors).

I just talked to someone who was there last year, and it sounded like it has changed a little, but it was alright. They tried to make it an interactive tour, so there was one part where you "rode" on a wagon delivering beer. it was just some mechanical thing that moved and a projector. But there were rooms with some of the ad campaigns over the years that I thought was pretty interesting (I'm into that sort of thing though). And we stopped twice during the tour plus once afterwards to have a beer and we got to bring back a glass. It was alright, but if I was in town for just a couple days, I would go back to the museums over it.

I've been there twice, in the late eighties. Both times I promised myself I'd take it easy, both times I ended up pretty Amsterdamaged.

Four of us spent most of the night wandering back and forth, with plans to sleep in the car we had borrowed for the trip. Lo and behold, we get back to the car maybe two or three hours before dawn, and the driver had lost the key.

There's a story about the drive to Amsterdam from Germany, and another about trying to figure out how to find a locksmith at 4 in the morning without the faintest idea how to speak or read the language. I'll try to post the stories later today...

I met my wife in Copenhagen, and that evening I convinced her to come to Amsterdam with me the same day. So it's always been a special place to me.

Anyway, it's been many years since I was last there, but if it were me I'd:
    1. Get high.
    2. Walk around a lot and just enjoy the town.

That's about it. I'm less into museums and brewery tours than I used to be. If I found myself getting bored, I'd go to Bruge. Always wanted to see Bruge, even before the movie In Bruge. If that got boring, on to Paris.

Sounds like something to do if we run out of ideas. I don't need to visit a museum to get drinks - I prefer hitting up the local watering hole.

I'm not a huge museum person, but the Van Gogh museum really intrigues me (I guess it really depends what the museum holds). I'd really like to see some of the outdoors stuff (parks, tour the canal, etc). The Van Gogh Museum. Music.

Mostly, this trip is my co-worker and I meeting up in Amsterdam for 3-4 days of fun, before we head to Germany to visit the Mothership (aka the winery that owns our US company). Then, we'll be hanging in Germany (with 2 days in France) for another 7-10 days. The Germany/France part of the trip will be fun, but I'll be on someone else's time, so we figured we should go there and explore first.

A man of my own heart - that's half the reason we're meeting up in Amsterdam (that, and I promised the wife I wouldn't go to Paris until she joined the trip). I just figured there has to be some outdoor spots that I have to check out.

Even without getting high, walking around any town is my favorite thing to do when traveling.

No. Like HCP, I've only been to the aeroporte. I had a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. It was not called a Royale with Cheese, at least in the aeroporte.

    Been there and it's awesome.

    1. Anne Frank house http://www.annefrank.org/
    2. Canal cruise (tour) http://www.amsterdamcitytours.com/boat-tours.html
    3. Heineken brewery tour (awesome time, and you get drunk!)
    4. Last but NOT LEAST, The Banana Bar www.bananenbar.nl/‎

The banana bar is insane. 70 euros, all you can drink for an hour served by naked bartenders. absolute insanity follows if you tip them 20 euros. they'll put sharpies in their parts and write you a post card, or throw a banana in there and have you and your guests take bites.... or shoot vibrators at you while you drink @ the bar...just unreal experiences....

If you want a top grade woman that will sleep with anyone or anything you don't have to go to Amsterdam. Just go to Alberta and bang Mrs. Hcp.

    TEH.

You go everywhere for the ladies. If you don't go to this banana bar, we're going to revoke your man card.

    Slow your roll, FAMS.

I just said I wasn't going for the ladies. I didn't say I wouldn't be going to the banana bar.

On one visit I rented bicycles and on another I rented scooters. This is a great way to check out Amsterdam and it's quite easy to get around that way. I highly recommend a two wheeled day. Aside from that go to the Anne Frank house before getting high. Then, rip it up but don't spend the your time in the coffee shops more than just puffing, go check out all the museums while still high, especially Van Gogh.

Also, at night time I went to a few different bars that had live music and was really surprised how awesome the live music scene was there. Great way pass the night and meet some dutch women. The locals won't be at the coffee houses much, nor at the museums, but they will at the bars watching music.

    Have a blast.
