Yeah, how the hell do you fire Howser & hire Billy 5 times? I'm convinced George was snorting horse manure.
Aaahh, I see you do have the magic touch with color.....when you go advanced, and hit see more, it takes a moment, to open a whole new window for those smiley faces, are you getting a 2nd new window when you hit see more?/ I often get that 2nd window and at times, it winds up behind my Window for the Board, and I have to look at my toolbar at the bottom of my Computer Window, which differs from the board window, where I will see a new tab, or icon for that second window. You can also minimize you Window by clicking on the 1st of three icons, and it is the little slot looks like this _ , or you can minimize the screens by hitting the middle button, but be careful not to hit the X far right button or that will blow you out and close your windows. Again this differs from the screen window. by hit, I mean, take the mouse to the icon and press, in my case I just use a baseball bat to hit these things...
Can someone please tell me why Yogi was fired after 64, after the team winning 99 games, and lost in the Series in 7 games??????
Honestly, I don't have a clue, and have wondered the same thing, most of my life.....a true knowledge procrastinator, as you would think by now, I would have and own the Yankees book 59 put up, in the Books Post...I got to get my hands on that book, come next payday and its mine........
I like your new Avitar Hammer, it makes me hear Sand Man, and have visual memories of Mo'....but then I liked your last Avitar, ......the Viking pre-dating Thor. This post makes me think of old Yankee 60s-Dynasties, we were treated to see in person. The Orioles of those late 60s-early 70s, the Athletics, Giants, Dodgers, Tigers, Big Red Machine.....a ton of Hall of Famers, from all Teams in that era, 60-80. Seems no Teams really dominated in the 80s, we had the Roid Bash Brothers, which one never took steroids of course, and deserves to be hung by the Maris Boys. The Cards, Tigers, Twins, yet no one really dominated the 80s decade. The 90s began a new era of dominance, from the Jays, to the Yankees and Braves. An Open Question For Anyone-(maybe grounds for a new post). Who will be the next dominating Dynasty of a TEAM, and NO please don't say the Bosox Bozo Boys...!!!!
You've got a lot of good years ahead of you Steve. Get the most out of it because it does go by very fast. So enjoy what you have everyday. And I hope the wife is feeling better in dealing with her pregnancy. Good luck.
I asked earlier, but I don't really recall how Buhner was viewed by the organization prior to trading him for Phelps... Obviously, in hindisight, he shouldn't have been traded...
Thanks... today was opening day of trout season up here, and I have to say it was the worst EVER.... next year, on opening day, I'll go without the boys.... WAY too stressful...
That '80 season saw the Yankees blow a huge lead over Baltimore (8 games If I remember) then got swept by Baltimore 3 straight at the stadium then lost 3 of 5 down in Baltimore. Billy Martin and the A's rode to the rescue by sweeping Baltimore either 3 or 4 straight and that may have saved the season. Yankees won by three over Baltimore. That play in game two of the ALCS with Ferraro sending Randolph into an out and eventual game loss did not help. Yankees swept by a team that they had previously beaten three times, George got Ferraro and Howser for one failed season and series.
That '80 season Yanks blew and 8 game lead to Baltimore, Orioles swept them at the stadium then took 3 of 5 in Baltimore a couple series later. Finished 3 games ahead in the end, if Billy Martin and the A=s hadn't have come in and swept Baltimore the season may have turned different. Game 2 of the KC Series was not good when Ferraro made that fatal mistake of sending Randolph to tie the game. Yankees swept by a team they had beaten 3 times previously with Gossage giving up that bomb in game three. No wonder George was pi@@ed, he got Ferrara and Howser at the same time. I did not particularly agree with Georges actions but that is the way the ball bounced. Oddly enough Hower managed the Kansas City team that beat Whitey Herzogs Cardinals.
Howser managed the same Team, Whitey had previously left behind, those KC Royals...Herzog, Howser, and Bobby Cox share another common thread, other than Cox and Herzog are in the HOF... All 3 at one time were traded for by the NY Yankees. And/or traded away. All 3 had anemic batting averages, and never caught on. Utility, Players, who are rarely used to start and play a full season, often have turned into some of the greatest of coaches, as most have said, they learned the trade of how to play and Manage the games, by sitting for years, watching coaching moves for years. The likes include, Walt Alston, Bobby Cox, Dick Howser, Tony LaRussa, Whitey Herzog, and the Blimpie Tommy Lasorda. Of course many more can be on this list. Bobby Coxecember 7, 1967: Traded by the Atlanta Braves to the New York Yankees for Dale Roberts and Bob Tillman. Dick Howser: December 20, 1966: Traded by the Cleveland Indians to the New York Yankees for Gil Downs (minors) and cash. April 2, 1956: the New York Yankees sent Whitey Herzog to the Washington Senators to complete an earlier deal made on February 8, 1956. February 8, 1956: The New York Yankees sent a player to be named later, Lou Berberet, Herb Plews, Dick Tettelbach and Bob Wiesler to the Washington Senators for Bobby Kline and Mickey McDermott.
I was just going to post something about this, I guess great minds think alike. Yeah both Howser & Cox sucked as hitters. And only Downs surprised me never making it to the big dance because he had a very respectable minor league career.
Yes, GREAT MINDS do think alike......touche Rick...!!! Give yourself a pat on the back for me, oh forget the back, that hurts, give one on the shoulder then... Hell, I can't reach my back, shoulder won't allow it, so I'll have Kim give me several. shit nothing like being conceited (my bad on my part)...I don't deserve a pat on the back, Kim says more a KICK IN THE ASS is warranted. Oh dear-!
