Considering the rotation going into the season this is a disaster right now folks. Tanaka is the only bright spot. Nova: Out until 2016 Sabathia: 5.11 ERA Kuroda: 5.28 ERA Pineda: Now out three to four weeks with shoulder strain Tanaka: 3-0 2.26 ERA Phelps and Nuno I'm sorry are not the answer long term. Cashman needs to get off his ass and get an arm in here.
That's a very good question but they have to do something. You have lost a starter in Nova and now who knows when it comes to Pineda. This could be a lingering problem. The hope would be that Sabathia and Kuroda would step up but they're looking more and more like back of the rotation guys. One guy just old and the other with lost velocity and trying to figure out something we aren't sure if he will ever be able to.
Back in '78 I purchased an MGB Roadster. Sharp looking car BRG with beige interior. That year was their first for electronic ignition and that was a problem. You'd be bopping down the road and the car would just shut down end resulting in leaving the road and having the car cool down before you could restart it. Sabathias game reminds me of that car, looks sharp, runs to a certain point then shuts off. We will note that he did have two nice starts against Boston & Tampa thinking maybe two out of three ain't bad. Poor offense last night, seeing Beltran fan against Tilt Cap reminded me of his strikeout against Waino in '06.
Great Analogy Yank, I too can relate to that one. C.C. simply shuts down and can't be jumped to start. I too had a mega problem with a Datsun Electronic Ignition in a new 78 Model. The SOB, shut down on me on the I-5 leaving me to take the nearest off ramp into downtown Pacoima....the same year, it dumped me in downtown Watts....WTF-any where but those 2 places. Once I got back to town, I about ran the damn truck through Datsun's showroom...well I wanted to, told the Service Mgr. if he didn't fix it on the 5th try I would, or drop it on Tokyo...I have never owned a Japanese car ever since. Never again. The cost of parts, dealer parts too, that can only be bought from the dealer, and back then only on weekdays, their parts stores were never open on Weekends. Altho' my sisters and one brother, have owned Honda's, Toyota's, Mazda's, or top end Lexus, Infinit's and Accura's (Honda-Toyota-Nissan). They never kept them long enough to have to work on them. Yet, some did get close to 300 thousand miles out of them by only changing the oil, spark plugs, et al. Yet, I wouldn't have a rice burner up my ass. Give me a McClaren, Buggatti, Pagani, or shit, while were at it, any other Super Car....just don't give me the bill.... Nope, I have driven Ford Trucks for 30 years now. I was told when I got down south, no one drives Fords down here. They all drive Chevy's. A year later, when Dodge came out with their new model designed (as we know them now), all those southern chevy boys, went right out and bought a Freaking Dodge. Dodge, another POS, I once owned a Ram Van, a 96 Model, brand new, and the auto tranny was gone by 50,000 miles, and they never fixed it proper. By the time Daimler bought them out, the POS was like having AID's, or Leprosy, no one (dodge/chrysler), wanted to even look at it. On top of insult to injury, I once needed a water pump. A GM or Ford pump cost $20 back then. A Datsun water pump was part of an Assembly, one had to buy the whole damn assy, the water pump, pulley housing and clutch fan, cost-$75...! What one saves on sticker price, one gives back over years in parts costs. Fking cheap plastic POS.
Honestly, I don't think anyone is available out there for SP's. Could be some possibilities in the Winter Meetings tho'. The Yanks have to re-tool their Pitching overall, or they are doomed.... I can see some trades being made, the Boys got to get a staff, not just one ace, this go round.
I admire your direct to the point, no holds barred insight. I feel the same way, sadly enough to say. Other than 09 and prior from 03. The Yanks have failed to nail down the top pitching prospects, and or Free Agents, to pursue another Series Run..... gone are the glory days, will the Yanks ever have another staff comparable to the 90s greats??? I doubt it, yet want to see it....
Tanaka has and is going to be great. After that there's just nothing reliable. Just a bunch of question marks.
Believe me, One Tanaka will not be enough. At 25 yrs old.......he's the ACE. Can you imagine if the Yankees were not able to sign him?
...there's no viable starting pitching out there that be had via a trade that would be any better than what the Yanx already have...and even if there were, the Yanx don't have the chips to acquire this mythical pitcher...injuries happen and the Yanx will have to go with their youngsters in the time being. ...Cashman and the Steins opening up the checkbook is not always practical.
If Sabathia and Kuroda would cut the shit things won't be as bad. If they're going to pitch to over 5 ERAs you can just forget about it.
Yep, opening the check book is not the answer either...! I'm not sure the Farm Club has the future's talent to bank on. We all saw the hype Phil Hughes, and Joba, and a few others got. Samardzija is constantly being touted as a viable option. (Then so was Matt Garza, who I wouldn't of taken the chance on). Samardzija, maybe. Yet, 1 SP is not going to get the Team through the long season. Let's hope the Winter Meetings net some worthy talent, without selling the Farm. Or the Boyz don't bust the bank with FA signings in excess of talent received. With some work, I do believe some key young guns can be obtained, for trades, cash considerations; without breaking the bank. While allowing unnecessary bloated salary fat, to be trimmed from the payroll.
...I agree, but win, lose, or draw, it's a bit late to try to build another staff...there's not much out there...we'll have to go with what we have.
Agreed. I'd like to see the Yanks try out their Farm System, there's got to be a couple of young guns, who have yet to show us their best A game. Often a prospect may not bloom in the Minors, yet may explode in the Majors. (I Hope). What did Torre go through one year, something like 28 different starting pitchers, yet to no avail. I can't help but think the Yanks Prospects, have to have a diamond or two in the rough of the Minors, yet to reveal their prowess. Some just don't blossom, until the opportunity comes from a higher calling, in this case, the Bronx. (Perhaps, or, an exception to the rule). 59-What Yankee Prospects do you like in the Minors, or, who would you call up?
