It was an interesting spectacle, I thought the coverage was "force" both in term of coverage, commentary and the social media. But I get that they are all afraid of the gay mafia. But for 248 picks the draft was all about football and kids having a shot at a career in the NFL. The kid picked #250 and beyond did not get the same "attention" level. I was in the gym, in the rather tolerant and socially liberal so cal. I didn't see anyone react favorably....in fact it was interesting to see the largest disgust coming from women and other black men.
The Gym isn't in the Frisco Castro district, I take it.... (we need a pulling chain Emoticon). Since when did NFL replace TE's with Loose Ends...?
A bit to much PR...! I was doing ok til the news. The kiss was a bit to much, no, WAY way more than I needed to see, so I threw my bat thru it...!
Exactly what I was thinking, Rick...you read my mind, I mean writing...! What the media will do to get coverage..! If they don't get it, they make it, ie., the news that is...!!!
Stories like this & many others only become issues when the pimps in the media make it so. Sometimes we'd be a whole lot better off if the freedom of the press can be silenced once in a while.
I can only imagine what he will be focused on....! (is IT a boy or a girl)...I bet he made his momma or daddy proud...I liked 'em better IN THE CLOSET...! The press deserves a Nuke....! Incoming...!!! I'm not going ballistic, just nuclear...how do I disinfect my Screen?
My problem is a that this "first" is made to be more significant than some other first. He's not the first gay man to play in the NFL, stats predict this. So they had to tack on the "openly gay" label, and then magnify it with the cry, kiss and cake routine. That turned a professional issue into a political one and that crosses the line for me. I'm waiting for the interviews with kids drafted #250 and on..."so what's it like to play in the new GFL, I mean NFL?"
Sad but true. Here's the problem I have with much of this. If ANYONE thinks that SAM is the ONLY gay football player or even athlete for that matter is going through life with blinders on. One's sexual orientation is private & NOBODY'S business and should be kept as such. In no other walk of life do people have the need to announce one's life. "Hi I'm George & I'm Jewish" "Hi I'm Bill & I have man boobs" "Hi I'm Gus & I like playing with dolls" "Hi I'm Mary & was born with a dick" "Hi I'm Jane & I like men & Women". "Hi I'm Bob & I pluck my anal hairs" The point is that one's life is there life, just live the fucking thing & stop trying to draw attention to yourself.
I do no such thing my friend.... I know Joe plucks his anal hairs but not me, I only do my nose hairs...!!!
