The press conference was pretty clear the Blazers are in 'win now' mode, and aren't going to give projects much room for error in real games. Now Mo on the other hand...unlimited leash. (Because, really, what were our options? Pretty much didn't have any).
I know people hate Mo, but I would rather keep him and use our MLE and BAE on other needs. Its either we keep him or put our eggs in the McCollum basket.
And I'm OK with that. If I understand correctly we will have approximately the same amounts to spend on free agents whether we resign him or not, so signing him gets us an extra proven player?
I dont believe that's the case. We don't have any bird rights with him, so we would need to use one of our exceptions to re-sign him after he opts out, thus reducing other options.
In that case: Burn him! He's a witch! Not knowing what our other options are going to end up being, I have no idea what we should do. But that won't stope me from sharing my ill-informed opinion, dammit!
give him time guys, he just need playing time. i will never doubt my meyers leonard. he has too much potential for me to hate him, even 2 summers ago i would still draft him. i still love him
I don't dislike him. Maybe this summer, Lopez will teach him how to physically struggle under the basket, instead of turning his back in fear of a foul. Our coaches are unable to unlearn him his phobias. But in the work world, when an employee isn't succeeding, you do his development a favor by letting him move on to your rival, and your own company a favor by hiring someone else. Holding the job open for 4 unproductive years is for the birds.
You're right; if Mo signs a deal starting at 3.17M or less, we can keep him without using MLE. I don't see that happening, but I guess anything is possible.
Nobody offered him more than $2.5 million last year. With an 11PER season, being a year older, and another season with significant injuries do you really see teams offering more now? I'll be shocked if another team gives him more than $3 million per year.
Unexpected cap increases make teams do crazy things. Plus, PER aside, he was nationally lauded for being "the only consistent bench player" on a team that improved by 21 wins after his arrival. I'll be surprised if he can't get a deal of at least $10M/3y.
