Dragic has been to the playoffs once, as many times as Lillard has. Lets compare them for fun. OMG NOT EVEN CLOSE MR SUB ZERO SLAYS THE DRAGIC!

Rk Player From To G GS MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% 2P 2PA 2P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
    1 Goran Dragic 2010 2010 16 0 14.8 2.7 6.3 .430 0.8 2.5 .325 1.9 3.8 .500 1.4 1.9 .742 0.6 1.2 1.8 2.3 0.3 0.1 1.0 1.1 7.6
    2 Damian Lillard 2014 2014 11 11 42.4 7.5 17.2 .439 2.5 6.4 .386 5.1 10.8 .471 5.4 6.0 .894 1.1 4.0 5.1 6.5 1.0 0.1 2.7 2.6 22.9

You can play around with numbers all you want, and as every does, you can cheery pick to show what you want to show. Here is a nice and easy way to answer this question, who would you rather have as you PG Dame or Dragic? Everyone that isn't a suns fan is going to choose Lillard.

Dude, SERIOUSLY are we going to go over this again?

I already pointed out two pages ago that they had nearly identical pts, assts, and rebounds. Do you really think the coaches are going to go down the list and compare every single advanced stat? No. They're going to look at the basic stats and then look at the records and give the nod to Dame. At the time they selected weren't the Blazers in third? Teams with winning records get rewarded. It's a fact of life.

Plus, I would like to point out that Dame did what he did while being the second option on offense. Goran Dragic WAS the Phoenix Suns offense. Bledsoe only played 40 games, so Dragic was the #1 scoring option for the Suns. He had the highest USG% on the team (outside of Bledsoe).

Kobe and Paul both made the All Star team last year. As did Lillard. Why wil Kobe and Paul being healthy prevent Lillard from making All Star team? The only wild card is OH SHIT WAIT... ODEN IS IN THE Game right NOW.

I doubt the coaches give more than a cursory look at the stats when they select, if at all. They use the eye test, their vast basketball knowledge, and their knowledge of the players based on game planning and coaching against them.

Which BTW is more than the fans do. The fans vote based on their home team, and shoe, sprite, and kia commercials.

He could beat out Curry and Dragic. The rest of those guys probably not. But someone on that list will likely be injured or have a bad start to the season. I'd say Dame's chances are 50/50.

Dame is still improving. He started out a three point shooter who couldn't finish or get to the line efficiently. Then he learned to finish and get to the line. This summer I hope he adds a little "Tony Parker" in the form of that floater he started working on in the playoffs. Once he gets that and a little mid-range game, he will be an all star without question.

Defense. He needs to spend the entire summer working on defense. Nothing else.

Hitting that floater reliably would add 4 points to his game every night. We'd have won well over 60 games last season with 4 more points per game. And that's with the horrible defense.

Defense is great; steals are the most valuable play in basketball according to the stat nerds at 538.com ... but a reliable floater makes Dame unstoppable.

But how many points did we give up at the point guard position? How many fouls did Rolo commit because of Dame's poor defense? You're right, a floater would give him 4-6 more ppg, but how much better would our defense be if he was competent?

Adding one steal per game is equivalent to adding 4 points per game (take two away from the opponent, add two to your total), but I worry that the on-court effort of adding one steal per game will also add a foul or two, and lower his overall PPG.

The way I look at it, we need to drastically improve our overall defense if we want to advance further in the playoffs. That starts with Dame. Perimeter defense has been a huge issue for us.
