Hibbert is obviously not a lockerroom leader on a team. Indy is just a bad fit culturally for the guy IMO. Like Sheed going to the Hawks and then Pistons, Hibbert could impact the right team playing with guys who actually like each other. He's just going to be a risk because he will probably eat up a chunk of cap space. I'm in favor of getting both Lopez brothers on the Blazers. Same problem though. Not much left over to improve the bench.
That's my point. I think on the right team Hibbert could be a monster. The biggest problem with the Pacers is the horrible overall chemistry. It wasn't the right situation for him. Too many egos. Our team has great chemistry.
You do realize that the chemistry may get really affected when you trade 2 of our starters? It may not just stay there.
Thats what we\Blazers where worried about when Portland could have traded Buck Williams and Jerome Kersey for Charles Barkley.
I wouldn't put either RoLo or Wes in the same category as Kersey and Buck. Then again, I also wouldn't put Hibbert in the same category as Barkley.
Ya well that's not the point. My point was that both Wes &Lopez ate fan favorites much like Buck & Kersey. Hibbert is an all star much like Barkley. I'm not comparing the players.
I think Wes/RoLo for Hibbert, if at all a possibility, is actually one of the few moves I've read here that make sense in the real world. Maybe because I was the poster who first mentioned it?
I think it makes sense because it's decent value for Indy and there are plenty of wings right now on the open market. We could replace Wes with the MLE.
It's risky, based on which Hibbert shows up. If it's Hibbert from 2012-13, that move makes the Blazers a better team, IMO.
It's the kind of high risk/high reward trade that could get us a championship if it pays off. If it doesn't pay off, his contract is up in a couple years anyway.
My issue with trying to replace wesley with MLE player is our bench stays weak, because our tool to upgrade it was just used to balance our starting lineup. I don't think you get Ariza or Deng on MLE. A guy like Nick Young just basically took whatever increase on defense we got with Hibbert and threw it in the shitter. On top of that, I imagine they like Lance more than Wesley, and don't really want to have 16-17 million locked up between the two of them.
Good counterpoints. These are the types of deals that I imagine GMs have to almost assess in an actuarial manner, but at the end, the gut probably plays a big role. I wonder if Bird and Pritchard are tired of The Lance Show, though, to the point they don't want to give him $8-10m/year.
If they would do Hibbert for Rolo/Wright/Claver, I'm totally down with that. I'm just not sure they would go for it. If that trade went down, I think I would use the MLE to sign Paul Pierce and the BAE to hopefully sign Shaun Livingston.
He reminds me of Ron Artest a bit. He just seems batshit crazy. Tons of talent, but fucking loony toons.
Are they the source of the chemistry issues or does Lance Stephenson take sole ownership? I still think the Indiana Pacers are Hibbert and George and moving both of them would be sign of throwing the flag in on them and the idea leading to a retool or rebuild. Don't know if they are ready for that. And I think they would try a different coach before jumping to that conclusion.
