Want to be more informed about what's going on in the world? The findings of a new study suggest that watching Stephen Colbert might help you more than actual news programs. A recent study concluded that "The Colbert Report" did a better job of teaching people about campaign finance in the last presidential election than MSNBC, CNN, Fox News or broadcast evening news. The study — published in Mass Communication and Society and led by a senior researcher at the University of Pennsylvania — surveyed 1,232 adults and tested respondents' knowledge of campaign finance from a variety of sources. "['The Colbert Report'] not only increased people’s perceptions that they knew more about political financing, but significantly increased their actual knowledge, and did so at a greater rate than other news sources," the university's Annenberg Public Policy Center wrote in a statement. The study is not the first that concludes viewers of fake news shows like "The Colbert Report" are more informed than those of other news sources. I like Colbert when I watch him. At times, he's both praising and mocking his guests at the same time. It's brilliant satire, because at times what his character says is so logical that even the audience isn't in on the joke.
I like to watch both the Daily show and the Colbert Report (or I did). Pretty funny stuff but I think your article is stretching the value a tad.
The Making a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Colbert Super PAC, really did spell out how ridiculous the law is for me.
Well, of course. Colbert actually mentions the news; the 'real' news shows are all about how someone met their long-lost twin at age 75, or how a dog barked and saved a family from a house fire. barfo
It's sad that you don't appreciate excellent satire. I'm not surprised, though, since your "comedy" consists of lame one-liners. You probably thought Colbert's Press Correspondents speech was directed only at the right, too.
It's the best show on TV. Since he's British, he skewers both sides equally. I'm not sure there a big audience for that, since people typically want to not hear negatives things about their political "team," but it's hilarious. The Oregon Health Plan/Lisa Loeb thing was brilliant.
yeah that show is pretty great, he kills everyone, its also a lot of foreign stuff if you are inclined to give a fuck i liked his net neutrality segment last show, pointing out how the cable companies top lobbyist is now the head of the fcc and ruling on it, and nobody seems to care
