It is a big problem. I have a friend very tied into Oregon politics (lobbies in Salem) Whenever I ask who is going to win or why, it almost always comes down to who has the most money in the campaign. Personally i've been to the neighborhood BBQs, patio dinners, meet and greet lunches where you meet the politician and then take out your checkbook. Problem is I think there are some real good people out there with some good intentions, but if they don't play the campaign fund raising game, they don't stand a chance. Some politicians have tried the "won't accept anything over $500 from any individual or entity" but their downfall seems to be they don't have the money to deal with the smear campaigns from the other side. The whole thing fund rasing is weird . . . there has been at least a couple checks I have written where someone from the campaign calls me to ask questions about the money and would like me to clarify it by writing a new check from my personal checkbook or writing a note on the check. When I ask what if I don't, they politely say that is OK but they are going to void my current check. So I actually don't think all politician lie and some try to do it the right way. But on a day where another school shooting happens and two other kids are found with guns on them at school . . . I'm in a bad mood and fall back to all politicians will sell out.
I only ever found one Democrat that that didn't make me think, Dork! So I voted for him, JFK. Turns out he wasn't very bright.
Russ Feingold was an honest politician who won elections without taking massive amounts of money from big donors. http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/contrib.php?cycle=2008&cid=N00000036&type=I
I understand why you voted for the one Democrat that didn't make you think. But why are you calling jlprk a Dork? barfo
You can say I look, post, and think like a dork, but Denny says you can't say I'm a dork, because Denny loves me.
I figured out you're a lawyer after I posted this... http://sportstwo.com/threads/264328-Public-Executions?p=3364148&viewfull=1#post3364148
She is promoting her book. She is not a pimp. For the record I don't think she is going to run. At least not in 2016. But who knows?
pimping in the way I used it was not meant to be derogatory, just an way to say promoting. As I hope you could tell from my post, I would be very excited to see her run, as I can't think of a single other Democrat who is likely to run that I consider half as honest and for the people as Warren. I only know her stances on economic issues, and her outspoken willingness to take on large money organizations, but from what I have seen, she's awesome.
I could see you are a supporter of Warren and usually we're on the same page - or at least respectful. But "pimp" is a hateful person and I could never see it as a compliment or a neutral term. Like someone once saying here that calling a woman a whore was somehow a compliment, in what universe? I tend to agree with you on liking her, but Warren has zero foreign policy experience, I think she'd get killed in primaries. My concern is that if Hillary Clinton is "anointed" nominee there will be no real discussion of policy; what Clinton says goes. Some have suggested a Clinton/Warren ticket, the two wings of the Democratic Party, but I just don't think Clinton would pick another woman as her running mate, despite the fact that in all but two elections the "major" parties had no trouble running two men! That being said, anyone read her book yet? Comments?
BTW: Warren attended Rutgers University school of law. The National Law Journal repeatedly has named Warren as one of the Fifty Most Influential Women Attorneys in America, and in 2010 it honored her as one of the 40 most influential attorneys of the decade. Not sure where fake lawyer came from (probably some web site, copied and pasted until it became "fact" for people too lazy to spend 2 minutes on Google.) Wikipedia on Native American controversy: In other words, her supporters consider it unimportant, her opponents will hate her regardless. Very much like "birthers".
Wiki is about your speed. No surprise there. Those who support her don't mind that she cut in line, so to speak, in order to advance her career by claiming to be a minority. To liberals like you, I guess this is an admirable trait.
