I know posting of Gwynn's passing is old news, and was posted prior, yet may this story develop to correct a flaw in MLB. MLB incorporated a few new rules this year, may they incorporate another one, even more necessary and important, in the years to come. If not sooner! If this video doesn't choke viewers up, what will? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...letter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=mlb Some years ago, I noticed in numerous dugouts, huge vats of "Big League Bubble Gum". I don't get why any ballplayer would continue this old spitting/dipping tradition, using dip instead of tasty fresh soft bubble gum. Or would the sugar rush be considered a PED? No f'n way. I too smoked, and chewed for decades. After working with a man in the 80's who died from mouth and throat cancer, and the surgeries to remove his bottom half of the mouth, that too was enough to make me toss out the Skoal. This video of Gywnn literally chokes me up, notice as well it choked up Tony also.
That was indeed heartbreaking & someone seriously needs to take preventive measures going forward to avoid more of this happening again. At least have managers pass along info & videos to its players so they could read or see 1st hand the dangers that it causes.
Why do people need a "ban"? These are adults, they can research the consequences. Why artificially populate the gene pool with drones?
I hear what your saying, and taking personal freedoms away, can be problematic to say the least.... In lieu of a ban, simply place a poster of Ebert in the Dugouts...! That may be more effective...!
Tom, did you see Strasburg went public in his cold turkey "toss the can out" effect, he said, was due to his close relationship with Tony during his Aztec Playing Days. I only wish I had known years ago, about Strasburg, when he was Pitching at SDSU, it would of been worth the trip to see him then...!
