Well, there you go. It seemed like an obvious decision to everyone in this thread, and based on the unanimous ruling, it appears that it was obvious to SCOTUS as well. Nice to see that they're not completely senile.
Solid ruling. Hopefully the state has enough evidence they can re-try the case without the illegally obtained evidence and the defendants are found guilty again. Then it would be a win-win situation in my book. If not and the state loses the trial or dismisses . . . well the system is more important than an individual. Really it was just lazy police work by law enforcement. It doesn't take much to get a warrant.
Thank 6lb 8oz baby Jesus. I am getting so cynical I really thought they would let this happen. If the cops want to use this technology they can video conference with a judge and get a warrant right away.
The police took a short cut and the scum bags will walk. The police really do need to understand, they must justify and obtain a warrant before searching through your papers in days gone by, your computer or cellphone today, or your earring tomorrow. And no warrants for a bum tail light and a cop with a old tale.
