Going to go out on a limb here: 1). This deal was done partly to free up additional cap space so they can make additional deals. Obviously we don't know the specifics, but I'm guessing that 5 million TPE was a big deal. 2). Fournier seems like a really good fit next to Oladipo. He's a sweet shooting 2 who can handle the ball, and they can switch positions on defense. I'm going to guess that, more than just being a throw in. Fournier was a key to making the deal work because the Magic can easily envision him working in their schemes. This would be similar to Tobias Harris being used in the Reddick deal, and Marc Gasol being used in the Pau Gasol deal. Bit players that were highly thought of by the other team. Definitely would not have complained if the Bulls could've scooped him up, but I'm guessing it would've used up pieces the Bulls were looking to use to acquire someone better, and they opted for the option value of acquiring the bigger fish.

I have to say I''d be seriously disappointed if the Bulls trade out of the 1st round, miss out on Afflalo, and don't sign Melo or trade for Love. Or sign LeBron. But it seems to me those guys would want to play on a team with a guy like Afflalo added. In any case, if we did trade for Afflalo and use the two picks, it could be as good a draft day as the one we landed Lu and Gordon. A huge shot in the arm for the team.
