I know this may be on the level of closing the barn door AFTER the horses ran out but I was just considering the possibilities of what COULD have been.

Instead of the spending spree for Ellsbury, Beltran & McCann, we just resigned Cano & Granderson & picked up FA Nelson Cruz. Where would we be now?

Ellsbury was an upgrade on Granderson...and it weakened a competitor. Cano thing is another story...

Yeah I was just back seat driving thinking about Cano, Grandy & Cruz (approx 47M) in the middle of the line up as opposed to Ellsbury, Beltran & McCann. (Approx 50M)

And yet he's been the best of the 3. But still not worth the money they gave him.

I don't think anyone is saying that they're giving up on McCann at least I'm not, I mean hell there's still half the season left. I was only speaking hypothetically. You know....what if?

Cano, Grandy, etc. These were known quantities. The money spent gambling on new blood was always going to be risky, especially while we still have a small sample size to their entire contracts.

Lot of what if games can be played. Personally, I think what mgmt wanted to do was to get some leadership types to prepare for life after Jeter. I think McCann and Gardner are your strong leaders in 2015, Ellsbury your leadoff hitter.

did the Mules, Zebras and Elephants get loose too, or did the barn door close before they too escaped...?
