Chalmers or Livingston would be much better than Nelson. I look at Nelson the same way I look at Mo.

I think he's a much better decision maker, no?

Eh, I think they're pretty close. They're both short, score first, fringe All-Star point guards.

I would much rather have a defensive specialist like Chalmers, or a pure point guard like Livingston.

I would rather have both f those guys also. I would rather have Jameer then mo tho... It really comes down which guys will command the mle and which guys we can get for the bae. If you could get Jameer for the bae that could be our best route and leave the mle for another position.
I think Jameer is one of those guys that has been stuck on a bad team and once back with a contender could be a candidate for a resurrection year.

If we can get Nelson for cheaper than Mo, then yes, I would agree he is someone to look at.

    Edited the thread title again.

We should have Dick Clark do the countdown when it gets under a hour.

Re: FA starts in 7 hrs.

    Haynes just tweeted this :

On Mo Williams front, told the free agent guard has no meetings set with other teams: "His only goal is to get something done with #Blazers"

Looks like the ball is in the Blazers court and unless Mo's demands are not reasonable then i would count on him being a Blazer again. I know this would not please some fans but i think he is a good fit so after he re-signs this will leave the MLE (5.3m) and BAE (2m~)

Given Dick's health it might take 3 weeks for him to count to 10

I'd like Jameer Nelson as a backup PG over Chalmers or Livingston. Probably over MO, but the only thing I like about keeping Mo is his camraderie with the team and his "Swagger".

Chalmers would want to start. Livingston's ok, but I'm always concerned about his injury which was a pretty major one. Nelson's a pretty consistent guy and has more experience starting. I've wanted him for several years and suspect he'll come cheap.

The more stuff I see about it the more I feel like it is even bigger for this team than it appears on the outside looking in. Like big enough to be the deciding factor.

Is Chalmers a starter on most teams though?

No. But I think he'll come in with that attitude in FA.

"I'm the starting PG on the 2 time champs".

Plus he was horrible in this year's finals. I think Nelson is probably a better veteran backup PG and will come much cheaper. I think Nelson's looking to contribute to a playoff team while Chalmers wants to stat-pad on a team like Charlotte or Atlanta and get paid.

    Better at what? Shooting? Scoring?

In my opinion, we need defense and Chalmers is a good defender. He can shoot the three. He's a distributor. I think he can play next to Dame. He isn't my first choice. I personally like Livingston more than Chalmers, and Vasquez would be great but he's an RFA.

Re: FA starts in 7 hrs.

I think he'll be a better decision maker off the bench. I think he'll be more consistent, won't want to control the ball and take over games like Chalmer probably would in a new system. He has a slower pace and is experienced at playing with a dominant post player as the main option.

Chalmers probably benefitted greatly next to LeBron and company, he didn't have to do much. I think he'll do badly off the bench as a veteran backup PG and will be better suited as a starting PG for a bad team than a backup PG for a good team.

Re: FA starts in 7 hrs.

Collison is a good player. However, I'd want a veteran PG off the bench. Nelson's been around the league for a while and seems like a consistent "rock" kind of guy. I think Collison is also looking for a chance to start somewhere and make some big contract money. I don't think Nelson is a starter on most NBA teams now, I think he's best suited for the role that we have available: Veteran Backup PG that can provide scoring and leadership off the bench. To me, I think he'll end up being a more consistent Mo Williams with better decision making.
