The climate is considered one of the overall best if not the best. Very dry at times you'd wake up and run to the sink and drink 5 gallons of water. I lived in North Park then to Pacific Beach, very cool lived within walking distance of Mission Bay Beach and Pacific Beach itself. Back then Ocean Beach had a pretty cool amusement park so we'd cruise up there. The old man had a '57 Sudebaker Silver Hawk then wish I did not get to drive often but when so doing I was king of the road. Did an 8 month reclassification stint at Fort MacArthur in '74 (San Pedro) und used to go down quite frequently.
The old mans was white over powder blue, 289 4BBl, dual exhausts, with glass packs. I used to weekly wash, monthly polish the chrome, wax twice a year to earn my drive time but it was damn well worth it.
It is fairly consistent temperature with low rain & humidity which is why it's looked upon so favorably... I get that... Me, I need snow... I need the autumnal colors... I need spring.... I could very easily do without summer, but San Diego doesn't get that hot... If memory serves, the summer I spent in San Diego... the "worst" day out there which had all the locals complaining about how bad it was.... well, it was 88 degrees and 25% humidity... It was 104 that day and about 95% humidity in NJ that day... so they didn't know how good they had it that day... I think the entire summer I was out there, it was never below 75 and never above 88... I don't think it rained even an hour total in 3 months... June had the typical June-Gloom... But like I said, I need seasons... I need winter...
I'm familiar with winters as well. Born in New Jersey, had relatives in Vermont & Massachusetts. Coming up I lived in Pa, NJ, Ohio, prior to my first "warm climate state. After I joined the Army Viet Nam excepted I froze my a@@ off in Hokkaido, Korea, and Germany. Rootie, Tootie, Field Duty living in tents from GP tiny to GP Large is not fun. Shoveled my a@@ off at Fort Devens Mass, Carlisle Barracks Pa, Frederick Maryland and to a lesser degree in Norfolk Va. and Fort Myer. People ask me if I ever went camping. yes I did will I do it anymore hell no. People ask me if I ever went 4 wheeling yes I did, M-38, Mi51, M35 Multifuel. Will I go today hell no. Did I find the foliage change beautiful yes I did, western Mass is beautiful in autumn. Would I go back to Mass hell no. I remember stopping in Alaska enroute to the Far East in the month of May beautiful country but no thank you. Remember riding the liberty boats in Norfolk in winter, never again. The squeeze is originally from New Hampshire and she wants to go back for a visit, that is fine with me as long as it isn't past Oct 31.
Definitely an expensive place to live. Give you a general idea, July-October expect $700/month for electricity/gas and water/sewer bill combined. Oh and 13.5% income tax rate too.
