Isn't boozer being amnestied? He could end up in Houston if so. Then they will have the room exception, which they can sign a guy like mo with. I think they will be fine.
Yes, they'll need to have other people on the team to score. I think they can expect Ariza to score about 12-14 ppg while providing much needed defense at the SF position. That'll help Howard on the defensive side of the court. They might sign other scorers like Jameer as HCP noted in post a few minutes ago.
Haven't looked at the backup PG list since signing of Blake, but thought there were a good number of backup PGs left. DJ and Jameer come to mind. I see them getting a big man via trade. Morey likes to wheel and deal and I suspect he will continue to try this summer. I don't think he will drastically improve the team (like if he got Bosh and re-signed Parsons . . . which I put them as a lock in the top 4), but I think with Harden, Howard and Ariza and a couple more pieces, they stay as competitive as they were last year.
Supposedly they're trying to work out a sign-and-trade with Dallas. That would probably get them a trade exception.
That'll help them even more. Morey made some mistakes and it'll be interesting seeing how he moves on and improves his team.
The fact Houston choose Ariza over Parsons allows them to put more pieces around Howard and Harden. When there was Melo to Houston talk I posted I hoped someone like Minny was going to put out an early contract for Parsons and force Houston's hand and take away their ability to get Melo. This is a different situation but I like how Houston had to make an early decision about either using cap space or keeping Parsons. They choose cap space (I think a good call), but at least they didn't get both (cap space and Parsons)
I agree. Ariza is worth 8 mil/yr for his defense and 3 pt shooting. Rumor was the Wizards were ready to offer 10 mil/yr, but didn't want 4 yrs, only 2. Wizards are going to try to pull a "Durant come back home" in 2016 and making sure they have cap space to make that offer to Durant.
It's not about choosing Ariza over Parsons though. They could have KEPT Parsons....for $1 million dollars. That's like spare change. Given the situation they found themselves in, yeah, Ariza was probably the right move. They should have never been in that situation in the first place though.
Yeah, I read an article about that earlier today. That'll be huge if they can entice Durant back home. Washington will actually have a team worthy of watching since the Redskins (Joe Gibbs and the Hogs)!
Except we opted for the bland white bread. Seriously, Blake will help stabilize the bench as the back-up pg while Kaman hopefully has a healthy season.
All 4 players suck, but at least Portland is set at the starter positions at C/PG. Boozer and Jameer might actually start over Bev/TJones. Yikes.
8 million a year is great.... IF they get the Ariza that played last year with Washington. Go look at his stats. He has only had two good seasons in his entire career. It's a pretty big gamble actually.
Yeah Draco pointed that out and had a good breakdown of the Rockets situation. If they match Parsons instead of extending him they would have been paying about 25 million of so for one extra yr. Mistake on Morey's part but I see how it happened. He wanted all the cap space possible to go after Melo and figured they could always just match Parsons. Downfall was all big FAs went elsewhere and he couldn't sign one , where he presumed he could sign one and then make a decision on Parsons. (If they could have signed even a PF with 10-15 mil/yr, I think they match on Parsons. But biggest Fa left seem to be Ariza, who happens to play same position as Parsons.) When all that fell apart, I think he made the most of it by signing Ariza and leaving himself some more money to make more moves.
You guys are wasting a lot of time and energy thinking of ways to make the Rockets better. Traders all of you!
It is a gamble . . . but 15 mil/yr for parsons with an opt out after 2 yrs is also a huge gamble, IMO. Easy to love Parsons at 1 million/yr . . . now that he is getting paid the big bucks, let's see if he performs like a big time player with all the expectations and teams keying on him. reminds me of the Nic situation and if I remember right, you didn't think the Blazers should have matched Minny's offer.
Yes, this situation is salvageable. But the fact that Morey is trying to salvage their offseason should tell you how much of a disaster it really is.
