it is sad that I only take my son to one game a year. I remember in high school when my buddies and I got our drivers license we would venture into the city 5 times a year....sit in fair territory in the outfield and cost maybe 25 a game
Did you guys hear how much there raising the prices for the Sept 7th game honoring Jeter? Its fucking ridiculous & fans are rightfully pissed. I don't have the exact figures & I'm to lazy now to look for it but. tickets that were normally $40.00 are now $215.00 & the great seats that went for $5,000.00 are now $8000.00 something to that effect If this is the way the Yankees want to thank the fans for supporting Jeter all these years it really sucks.
you know though that people would still pay for it...and that others would have paid for the original price and jack up the price and make money off of it...yanks are cutting out the middle man...either way ill have a great seat in front of my big screen tv
That's where I'll be also on a comfortable couch stretched out having a cold one or two & enjoying the game.
This is why so many people I know have given up season tix for MLB, NFL. Cheaper to buy a 70+" tv and a sports package. Total control of the fan base and food/drink.
It's not really the Yankees who did so it's the secondary market. Tickets that were left got scooped up and now the resale on those is ridiculous.
In 2004, 2005 and 2006 I had the 12 game Saturday plan in the old Stadium. For two field level seats on the third base side I remember it was like $900 or so for the plan. Then you were able to buy the available post season tickets on Ticketmaster in a presale before the public. In the new place it would be thousands for that plan.
given the choice of going to a live game... NFL ...yes even though I am a Jets fan, the experience of the game between tailgating before and after rocks NHL...being a die hard rangers fan I love the energy and non stop action of a live NHL game at MSG MLB...there is too much dead time in a baseball game and the fact there are 162 games makes the one game a year I go to less meaningful
...the other problem with the new stadium and the way tickets are priced, if you'll take notice, for the most part, there's a completely different kind of "fan" in the field level or the better seats. ...most of the people I see in the stands nowadays aren't even watching the game...many are too preoccupied with their smartphones...I have not been to the new digs yet but the people I've talked with who have, say that the noise level is nowhere near what it was in old YS.
100% correct 59, and those empty seats are the big wigs in the lounges with the all you can eat food...too many fans being pushed far away from the action
...Al, you can also add to the fact that there are now so many other attractions at the new stadium...attendance may be near capacity, but there's still a ton of empty seats.
We were in the bleachers earlier this year, and including the seats, food, gas, tolls, parking, etc. it came to at least $350 if not $400... and they wonder why people don't go more often...
NFL... I've been to a couple of Giants games including the one where Strahan broke the sac record when Farve took a "dive". You are correct, tailgaiting and game was an awesome experience... and the seats I had at Giants Stadium were always in the sun on the lower level, so it was never too cold... BUT, the NFL has a lot of break in action as well... All the damn TV time-outs, teams running off the field, etc.... NHL... Been to quite a few games at the Rock and Brendan Byrne Arena... Loved going to games! Saw the Devils kick the ass of both the Flyers and Rag$ more than once each, Penguins as well... Great Action, great intensity! MLB... Love the game, but it does have a lot of breaks in action. While the game might not be as good, minor league games are FAR more fun and FAR more family friendly. My kids had so much more fun at the Railriders game last year than at the Yankees game this year. NASCAR... Depends on the track and your seats, but not only can you tailgate before and after, you can actually spend the night and camp... I had tons of fun, saw lots of crashes, and I've only ever been to Pocono...
I remember touching on this subject briefly early during Spring Training....now the results of this year are in, (as far as exorbitant rising prices/costs of a MLB game). If Disney Land were in the area Hammer, you could of taken your family for the day, AND spent the night in their Hotel too, got a free breakfast on top of it. (Altho' Disney land concessions suck after so many trips, same old shit, cold pre-cooked burgers or cold pre-cooked hot dogs).....! I can sit right behind home plate at the A+ Minor Lg. Jet Hawks (Stro's) for $12. Can usually get a week night seat an hour before game time for that price. Concessions too expensive. Parking the same, or I can park down the street for free. Take my own peanuts too....! But then thats Minor Lg. Ball, and NOTHING can take the place of a game in The Bronx.... There is alot to be said for Minor Lg. ball. So often we see tomorrow's stars....Altuve was here just 3 yrs ago.
Tho' MLB has always been my 1st love..... I'd definitely agree, there is NO game with more action; second by second, minute by minute, than a NHL game. I also love NCAA-FB games much moreso than NFL. Faster game, less to no Prima Donna's....more offensive and defensive schemes. As good of rivalries, with kids playing their hearts out, as if they're trying to gain an NFL job, cuz they are...! I rarely if ever see a NFL RB, approaching the sidelines on an end round, put his head down and plow forward as you see more often in College FB, than those NFL millionaires, who take the step out of bounds. (Of course there are/were some exceptions, Jim Taylor, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, Earl Campbell, Jim Brown, Bo Jackson, Barry Sanders etc.)........
totally forgot Nascar, been to Dover and will only go to short track or 1 mile tracks as you get to see everything....oh and the amount of frigen hot women at Nascar is unbelieable
Went to Disney in December and Disney was $95/day with adults, $90/day with kids... Animal Kingdom was I think $90/$85... I'll take MLB any day
