...fwiw, here's some trivia pertaining to the above song; according to Don Henley, his "In the Garden of Allah" is kind of a sequel to Hotel California. The Devil, (played by Kirk Douglas) returns but soon becomes disenchanted because the earth is so rotten and corrupt that there's "nothing left for me to claim". ...background vocals by Cheryl Crowe (youtube took down the video so I had to use this link
...and oh, if you're an Eagles fan at all, make sure you have this 2 DVD set...by far, best mixing of a live concert I've ever heard. https://www.google.com/shopping/pro....7&ei=RMfWU9ixMpCdyATa7oGYDA&ved=0CKEBEKkrMAE
I've been fortunate to see the Eagles several times, all in Los Angeles. 1st times:, The Troubador early on....Whiskey A Go Go....back during the original band members, Leadon (a prior Flying Burrito Brother), and Meisner. BTW-can anyone tell me what "Flying Burrito" was cliche slang for.....? 2 yrs. later, at The California Jam, when Jackson Browne took over Bernie Leadon's place, when Bernie was with his wife having their child.....(keep in mind, Jackson Browne wrote 3/4ths of "Take It Easy", after procrastinating for over a year, Jackson's new roommate (Glen Frey)- from the Motor Town; kept at Jackson to finish up the tune, and offered as much. Thus the complete song, was 1st released by the Eagles, and went right to #1.).... Saw the Hotel California Concert at Anaheim Stadium, and I swore the 2nd deck mezz, was gonna' come down. I have never seen any ball park 2nd level mezz move up and down 20 feet or so. Scared the shit out of me, and I was in the grass of the outfield where the stage was....! A great International Band, as good in the 70s, as any American Band, ie, Van Halen, et al. Saw them several more times with the addition of Felder, then Walsh, later with addition of Schmit-(ex-Poco member), same band Meisner came from. Richie Furay was Poco's band creator, and a co-founder of Buffalo Springfield, as you well know.... Furay was also a close friend with Jackson Browne, and GP-Flying Burrito Brothers co-founder with Chris Hillman of the Byrds. Hell when it comes right down to it, So.Cal. attracted a Mecca of Musicians, who all inspired, worked with, and influenced each other...that list is endless, from the Byrds, CSN, CSN&Y, you name it in that time. I've read often how many of these musicians would have weekend long pool parties in the late 60s-mid 70s. Anyone who was someone or a up coming musician, was at those parties.....needless to say I wasn't invited, damn it...!
Hey'a 59, I think Tote holding out on us......he keeps giving us these kindergarten Q's.... BTW-he took his 'Hillary in 2016" bumper sticker off of his Yugo. Now he's got a "Hillary/Pelosi in 2016" bumper sticker on that commy car....!
...saw The Eagles in the Tangerine Bowl...July 4th 1977...with, Hall and Oates and Jimmy Buffett and Andrew Gold.
Sounds like a helluva festival....I've never seen Hall and Oates, yet enjoyed some of their R&B.....did get to see Jimmy Buffet in 75 at Long Beach State Uni-just released "Margaritaville", a smashing success....! A supposed Blue Grass Festival, anything but, with Leo Kottke (12 string master virtuoso), with Emmylou Harris, and the Hot Band, (w/ Albert Lee and Rodney Crowell [once Johnny Cash's son-in-law], and damned was Roseanne, HOT in her time, in every sense of the word), as the closing act.
'I don't really want to stop the show.....but I thought that you might like to know, that the singer's going to sing a song, and he wants you to sing along, so let me introduce to you, the one and only Totus Shears, and the Sgt. Lonely Hearts Club Band" After all, I live in a yellow submarine.....!!!
I'll be gone all day, go see my Dad in the Hospital......have fun ya'll "Switchman waved his lantern Goodbye and Good Day as we went rolling thru, billboards and truckstops passed by the Grievous Angel, now I know just what I have to do".....(take it for me James).....
