I think most people shoot basketball like jai alai Curl their hand, and it rolls the whole way to get the "maximum" rotation.
That was a beautiful shot. He sprinted like a long jumper and his legs were like a slingshot. shot it more with his lower torso than his shoulders or arms. Pretty cool technique
I am of the notion that most of his misses are length of shot not aim. I think this might actually help him direct the shot. The ball is already moving towards the basket then his fingers guide it. My shot was much improved after I nearly destroyed my middle finger during football practice. My middle finger got bent backwards and from then on it flexed more and my shots went straight. I almost always got front rim on my misses afterwards. Basically I got a more even contact with the ball.
Breaking down tape of a game w had a few years ago, there was a kid on the other team who did something similar. He was also a pretty good shooter from deep, so maybe there is something to it?
Keith/Jamal Wilkes would bring the ball behind the plane of his shoulder/head (making it impossible to block from the front), wrap his big hand around it in a circular motion to cock the gun, and fire. John Wooden said, the results were so good, that the greatest fundamentals coach didn't mess with it.
