Bad news for me today, found out I need to replace central A/C and probably furnace. I got on line and started surfing but my head is spinning.

Would love to know a guy I trust who would come out and give me honest advise about best unit for my situation.

Anyone recently replaced their unit and done all the research? Better yet anyone in the industry who can give me the straight talk on this?

Recommendations for brand and services would be greatly appreciated!

Do your research. HVAC is an art as much as a science. Find out the kind of unit you would like to install then find the people that install them. HVAC people are pretty loyal to their brands.

FWIW- went with Jacobs (who I would recommend) and decided against a heat pump.

My experience is what maxiep says, HVAC people are loyal to their brands. Jacobs uses Carrier and after a little research I was comfortable with their products.

You are going to regret carrier if you ever have to replace anything. That being said, it is a fine brand.

I wish I had seen this sooner. My brother in law owns his own HVAC business in the Portland area.

Went into this blind, didn't feel like researching it much and went with a company that had a good reputation. Thought my biggest decision was if I should go with a heat pump. Got me concerned about carrier, but what's done is done.

It was a bought at a bad time for the AC to go out . . . hailblazer gave me a recommendation to a company that had an excellent reputation but were very busy and booked out a month just for a consult. So had to go with about a hour of research of companies and 3 bids. Could have used your brother in law . . . always like going with a recommendation and someone I can just trust what they recommend. When doing it on my own I feel they they are always trying to up sell me and I don't know what is worth it or not. Ended up going with infinity system from carrier which is top of their line because salesman told me it was what he had in his home and wouldn't go with anything else . . . I know . . .
