I mentioned this in another thread -- How would you respond to a friend who is this blitzed out on Jesus? This guy is like this constantly - aggressive, arrogant, preachy. He loves to talk about the Lake 'O Fire. I think he's to the point where he's headed towards the deep end in a Fred Phelps-like way:

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

First, I'd correct his quote ("The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom"--it doesn't say "all", and adding that word changes the meaning of the proverb). Then I'd point out that Jesus only preached to those He knew and for whom He demonstrated care, those who came to Him, and to those who perverted religion for their own gain. This guy's approach is not Christ-like. I would also likely share with him the common saying "nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care," intended to communicate that this kind of loveless preaching is generally ineffective, and more likely to push people away from Christ than to draw them to Him. I might also consider commenting on his posts, providing a calmer, less aggressive perspective.

In the end though, none of those would likely make an impact, and I would just continue to pray for him.

I know people like this. Most are fundamental Christians. They mean well, but they focus on fear as forms of salvation. Jesus didn't use fear. He used love and forgiveness. Also, many cast judgement which is against God.

My response to him is really quite simple.

A Christian washed through the blood of Christ is perfect in Gods eyes.

Also tell him that Gay people love him too

You should tell him that you'll pray for him.

Some have tried to get a logical reply from him and he'll always respond with something like this:

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Being turned on by fear is a pretty common kink. Being turned on by Jesus, also.

Being turned on by both at the same time--not sure how common that is.

I understand that you are not particularly interested in God or my views thereof, but I'll respond anyway.

IMO, the proverb "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom" does not mean that God demands that you fear Him. It means that having a proper understanding of the frailty of man in comparison to the awesomeness of God is the starting point to allowing Him the proper (preeminent) place in your life.

Also, if He is the creator of the universe, and made me, then if He did demand to be feared, who would I be to quibble?

I guess to answer the OP, I'd just avoid him. Although you said he was a friend, he doesn't sound very friendly. Aggressive, arrogant, preachy - those are fine qualities in an S2 poster, but not so much in real life.

If I fear Satan or Bush or drowning, does that mean I worship it?

Fez, where are you getting your 2 pictures of quotes?

    Directly from my FB newsfeed.

I'm trying to find the convo where he doesn't believe in carbon dating and dinosaurs. 'Tis gold. Denny would enjoy it for sure.

I'm sorry you feel that way. There is a lot more in the Old Testament about love, mercy, forgiveness, and reconciliation than most people realize.
