    Can someone enlighten me how a business can have a race/cultural issue and still operate successfully when they can't discuss the problem openly?

    To me, pretending the problem doesn't exist and lying to the public is worse than addressing it directly.

    Again you are missing my point. I don't have a problem with any names or programming I could give two shits what is on TV. I am making a point about the double standard that exists today.

    My point is that people would be rioting if someone were to create a network called "white entertainment television". And I call that a hypocrisy/double standard.


    If the owner was black and exclaiming about how he needs to have more black people show up so he should play music that interest them it would be fine. But the other way around and the guy has to resign. He wasn't being racist, he was being frank about the demographics and spending habits.

    When white programing dominates the major networks there is no need for white entertainment television. What programming would you want to see being aired on a W.E.T. that isn't currently being aired? This double standard you keep talking about would only exist if the major networks only showed black programming and there was little to no entertainment for white people. If that were to happen then you would have a legitimate complaint that there is a double standard, that there isn't a channel called White Entertainment Television.

    I don't give a shit about the content or what you think dominates the networks. Based solely off the name, the fact still remains that a channel named Black Entertainment Television is a double standard. Nobody in this current society could create a channel named W.E.T because people would claim racism, even if the network mixed even numbers of white/blacks in it. It's all in the name, not the content.

    So you're offended that there is a TV network with Black in the title because you can't have a TV network with White in the title? You have no problem with the Entertainment part or the Television it's just the Black part you're having a huge issue with? Some how that's not fair to you, to white people, to... You don't get to watch a TV network with the word White somewhere in its title. Content and programming doesn't matter, just the name. Am I understanding you correctly?

    So where would you like to go with this? In your opinion what would be the answer to this travesty? It's not a content thing with you, it's a name thing. Would you like to see Black Entertainment Television change their name? Or is this only about you not being able to have a network called White Entertainment Television?

    I will answer your questions in order:

    1. I'm not offended, mad, upset. I am merely making a statement/observation. Not sure why you continue to think I am emotionally vested in this.

    2. I have no problem with ANY of the names, however, there is a double standard if someone were to make a channel named White Entertainment Television. Do you not admit that?

    3. You're statement about what I think is fair or unfair is confusing. Multiple times I have stated my point of a double standard. I have said nothing about it being 'fair' or 'unfair' to any race. I said that if someone (anyone for that matter) were to create a channel named "White Entertainment TV" it would be deemed racist, however "Black Entertainment TV" is not. You keep thinking I am trying to support a cause, when in fact I am merely stating a double standard exists, and agreed with BlayZa's first post.

    4. I would like to go to St. Martin

    5. The names could change that would be fine, or people could relax on the whole black/white thing. I don't care either way, the double standard still exists at this time though.

    If a double standard is going to be pointed out in the television industry, one should also recognize that while ABC, NBC and CBS aren't called white television entertainment, the shows and actors and actresses on the shows are predominately white and not representative of the diversity in the community.

    When you're argument comes down to one word and one word only there is no double standard. B.E.T. targets a specific audience. El Rey just started up this past year, its target audience are Hispanic people who don't speak Spanish. "El Rey (Spanish for The King) is an English language American television channel targeting Latino audiences." It's a network for people like HCP. Is that racist? Is it okay because they don't call it the Latinos who only speak English Entertainment Network? No, they are targeting a specific audience. Just like B.E.T. is. Just like a lot of existing networks are targeting white audiences. You keep saying there is a double standard but there isn't.
