All 4 of the Group A (aka "Group of Death") teams beat all 4 of the Group B teams:
    France beat Croatia
    Spain beat Senegal
    Brazil beat Argentina
Serbia beat Greece (probably the only upset, as Greece was unbeaten, and it wasn't close)

Meanwhile, Gorgui Dieng goes 1/9 for 6 points against Spain. Hmm. Wonder how Marc Gasol will do against the USA defense? USA better hope they can force turnovers and get out and run.

I think Anthony Davis is going to have a field day against Spain, offensively and defensively.

He certainly SHOULD given his talent. But it depends on a lot. Notice that Spain can put Ibaka on him, or, if he's too tall, Pau Gasol, with Marc lurking behind. Davis is still pretty light - he won't be able to push any of them around, and Ibaka is pretty close to him athletically. Certainly they're all way better than anyone else he's seen so far. And he's going to pick up fouls trying to guard them. If you think he's going to dominate them defensively, I disagree. He's not yet a very good post defender - his value is in guarding the basket against driving guards, not in preventing giant oafs pushing him around. Otherwise why did Ayon get 25? Apparently they had to take Davis out and bring in Boogie.

Wow I'm surprised about that. There were a lot of NBA teams interested on him, right?

Was he a hawk last year?

No, but at least one (the Spurs, supposedly). Yes he was a Hawk. The fact is he wanted to stay in the NBA, but the ACB teams (Barcelona also wanted him) offered more $. Same as with Rudy.

One day a Euroleague team will sign a truly top-flight (probably non-US) player over an NBA team. Not for a while, although it's getting common for non-US players (like Saric) to want to stay in Europe at least until they don't have to sign for rookie scale. (Freeland did this, and while Papanikolaou was a second rounder, he turned down the Rockets first offer until they made him one of the highest-paid international rookies ever.)

Slovenia is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. If memory serves me it is one of those clustered with Lithuania.

    "Dirty Euro" vs. Ugly American...

First of all, it was a she. And it was funny, although it didn't "put anyone in their place," particularly as (a) Alabama isn't a country, and (b) we don't know her answer. And I don't think anyone will shed any tears at you not being a fan of theirs.

(If only Cousins could switch so quickly from defense to offense on the court...)

    It was a dumb question.

    And a dumber response.

In Cousins' defense: Slovenia could fit into Alabama about 6.7 times and has less than half the population.

In Slovenia's defense, it's much nicer and Slovenia could probably still kick Alabama's ass at basketball (especially if Erazem Lorbek were playing).

Actually I think Cousins' analogy was spot on. The entire point of the European Union is to try to replicate, at least in an economic sense, the United "States". I've met many Europeans who don't know where Oregon is, but we are supposed to know every European country the size of Rhode Island?
