Wasn't he on year 3 of a 5yr $50million contract? I'm not sure if $20mill is a financial death sentence.

Well you're stupid enough for taking the position you are taking in face of that video.

Poor Ray Rice being fired and facing financial death, probably doesn't have enough to feed himself these days. What about his constitutional right to play football for millions. People should be allowed to knock their s/o unconscious, drag their bodies around and then suit up and play in the NFL for millions. Pretty sure NFL has suspended Rice from ever working again in his life, anywhere, in any field.

I'm not sure how turning an offender into an unemployed pariah is going to turn his life around. My semi-educated guess is that the last thing Rice needs is LESS structure and discipline in his life.

I'd appreciate it if you two didn't call each other stupid.

What do you feel the solution is? How should it have been handled, under the assumption that the full video had been taken into consideration from the start?

Also, I'm sure Goodell is thrilled that the first Thursday night game after this "video scandal" broke features Baltimore.

Nah. I didn't think they were playing tiddlywinks inside the elevator. Evidently, you did.

Don't forget, you're also victimizing his now-wife. She's being victimized a second time. So what if what Ray Rice did paid him well? Jealous? Does that change the rules? I prefer to let the courts handle it. You want to assume that a two-game suspension after seeing video of him dragging her out of an elevator like a slab of beef was okay, but boy did you change your mind when you saw him hit her! You must be morally superior. Off with his head!

The only reason he's being burned at the stake is because the punch is on video. It must feel great to be part of a lynch mob.

Here are his contract details: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ray-rice/

My guess is that his $15MM guaranteed isn't going to be enforced by the NFL and he'll have to sue to get the rest of his money.

But you keep thinking it's okay to ruin his and his wife's (the real victim) financial future because it makes you feel better. After all, off with his head!

A jail sentence, followed by a period of house arrest when not at work. People who are immature and have poor impulse control respond best to healthy structure in their lives. I'm not familiar with Rice's background, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was one of those kids who was never rewarded for hard work and good conduct except on the field.

Just as an aside - I HATE people who abuse dogs.....but I was OK with Vick being allowed to return to football. The jail sentence and 2nd chance worked together to make him a better human being.

They live by the initial ruling, agree that it was far too light and make it--in the words of our President--"a teachable moment". If the Ravens decide to cut him (and remember they also reviewed the videos and stood by him, so they're not without blame), then another team may have picked him up. Now, he'll never play again.

    Hey...Sly is NOT stupid!

His posts sound like the product of a diseased mind under the influence of Meth, fetal alchohol syndrome, and tertiary syphillis....but Sly is a great mod and brilliant poster!

See, attack the post, not the poster! :tsktsk:

John McCain made the suggestion. They were talking about it on one of the sports talk stations.

He was a terrible candidate for a reason. Some ideas are too stupid to be repeated, and this was one of them.

Nice you assume what I was thinking . . . but really you have been way off on what I have been thinking. I don't even know why I pissed you off so much, you asked a question about what people thought happened in the elevator prior to the video and I answered your question on what I believe many were thinking (some DV happened in that elevator, but not to that extent)

But you and I battle every now and then so let's battle, especially when you are so blatantly wrong on this issue. :)

You throw out terms like lynch mob and acting morally superior and exaggerate about how I want his head off, which all sound great and is your typical MO (always crying on this board that punishments are too sever and try to champion causes like papag and mixum and how you are above all this lynch mob stuff). . .but in this case your aren't looking at the fact in front of you.

I actually didn't follow this story much. I assumed NFL did their due diligence and punished accordingly. Maybe that was the stupid assumption on my part. But once I saw the video . . . it was are you kidding me kind of reaction. There is domestic violence and acting in a fit of rage and then there is Ray Rice.

So your wrong that it is just about the punch. It's even been pointed out that it might not have even been the punch that knocked her out. It's the fact that he physically strikes out at someone a fraction of his size and when he sees the result of her being knocked out he doesn't call for paramedics or try to get her help or show any remorse but instead drags her around appearing to have no concern for her well being. That is not a guy who deserves to be employed right now. He needs programs and therapy above all else.

NFL tried to sweep this conduct under the carpet and almost got away with it . . . but the consumer wins one every once in a while and if NFL and the Ravens wants to keep fans and grow, they better not let this type of conduct be allowed to occur with their employees by only giving a 2 game suspension.

As Vick shows, 2nd chances are given and Rice will get his, but he better deal with his issues before the consumer is ready to cheer him on again.

Now to sink to your level . . . it must feel great to once again put yourself above the lynch mob mentality and that you are so much cooler and calmer and rationale about situations. But that shtick is way off in this situation.

Thanks for your insight, Frazier Crane.

Justice is supposed to be blind, to be dispassionate. Your point of view changed when you saw what happened in the elevator. WTF does it matter? She was fucking out cold and he was dragging her around on the floor. It was disgraceful. However, regardles what I may think of Ray Rice, this issue shouldn't be settled in the court of public opinion, but rather in plain old court.

I love how you put yourself on the side of the "consumer" and try to take the position you are the moral majority, but I'm a data guy. I have no idea if you're right or not. The difference is that I wouldn't presume I spoke for anyone but myself.

And Ray Rice will never wear an NFL uniform again. Running backs are a dime a dozen.

As for my "schtick", I won't apologize for not letting my emotions rule me. Good luck finding your next carcass once Ray Rice's and his wife's have been picked clean.
