...take time to think it over before answering/commenting.

    1. Will Cashman be rehired?

    2. If Cash is let go, should/would Jeter be considered as a replacement?

    3. If Jeter is offered the job, would he take it?

#1) Unfortunately yes, but I'm hoping its only a year to year thing. If its 3 years or more I'm gonna be pissed.

#2) I can see it as a possibility but I really don't see it happening. Then again I don't think Cashman had much experience at 28 when he took the job.

#3) No, I think Jeter will completely take time off away from the game for a year or two before we see him again. I even doubt we'll see him at next years old timers game.

Yes, Cashman seems to have a job for life. Jeter is not the gm type. He wants to get into ownership.

Rehired, Yes but a 2 year deal, perhaps with Kevin Towers back as a special asst. Now if Billy Beans were to become available, all bets are off.

Jeter is going to be focused on marriage and starting a family. We'll see him in the tabloids, not the sports pages. He's not going to be around any Yankee organization that has ARod still playing.

Jeter wants to own a club. He's gonna need more money, expect him to be very business focused. Would not be surprised if he owned an MiLB team, more likely within 5-10 years he joins an ownership group as the managing partner in charge of baseball activities....similar to what Ryan did.

...Cashman was not the "GM type" either when he was given the job...at the time he was akin to George Costanza.

...I don't think starting a family will keep Jeter from pursuing his next career, whatever it may be.

...I've also brought up the possibility of him being an owner some day, and it's a real possibility. But I'd like to see more "real Baseball people" in the Yanx' upper to mid management. And I believe DJ can pretty much be whatever he wants to be. I think he's already said that he want no part of coaching (and I don't blame him) but I think he has a pretty good idea of what it takes to win and how a team needs to be constructed in order to achieve that.
...I just think he could do just as well, if not better than Cashman...and IMO, it would be good "training" before becoming an owner.

I was going to mull the 3 Q's over, til I say your last post 59,

and I 2nd that notion/motion.....I'd give my balls to see Jeter as a part owner, and or/ owner and GM, now that's exactly what they need upstairs, is Derek's knowledge of the game, and fire for it as well.....

I would by have gone as far as Mess did to say DJ isn't the GM type, because I agree he can do whatever he wants to do. However, nothing DJ has said indicates he has any interest in that role either.

Jete was the reluctant captain...not your typical dynamic/overt leader. He's always been very private, I know people that know him personally, he is likely to avoid the constant media scrutiny. You can't have that as a GM. He's also spoken about wanting a family, and if you look at the other core4 as a guide, I think you see very little of him until after he is inducted into the HOF.

Get your Jeter fix these next 2 weeks, because you won't see/hear much until the run up to Cooperstown.

Jeter in the ownership group would lend concern at the top which seems to be lacking at this time. I heard Jeter once comment on his early days that if you did not produce they'd get rid of you and I believe he'd bring that policy right to the table.

...I have not heard him mentioning starting a family either...nor have I heard him say he has no interest in being a GM...not saying he has not said that, just that I have not heard it. I have however, heard him say he's "looking forward to not having a schedule to adhere to all the time"...or something to that effect.

...Cooperstown is 5 years away...and IMO, I don't think he'll go into hiding for that long.

I expect we will see as much of Jeter as we see of Mo, Jorge and Andy.

Not to mention that at your age you're probably tripping over them.

...none of those 3 has the charisma, public appeal, intelligence, and drive that Jeter does.

...DJ is more marketable than all 3 put together.

Billy Beans? Is that the team which hasn't won a playoff series since..........and is in the process of hanging on to a playoff spot by their finger tips after having the best record in baseball a month or so ago?

    THAT Billy Bean? Oh, okay
