Baseball is no longer the "National pastime". But to call it dead or dying is getting ahead of yourself, and simply incorrect. In fact, baseball has never been more financially sound than it is right now.

Are you from the East Coast? Do you really think Jeter makes that big of a difference? Yikes.

Is it more financially sound because of the actual product or because of how many games are played and the amount of sponsors the league has?

I believe Jeter does make a difference to the casual fan. Hardcore baseball guys don't care because the league is full of good to great players but do you think casual fan could point out Mike Trout, Miguel Cabrera or Clayton Kershaw if they weren't playing?

Baseball will always be around. However, it's falling fast into the niche group of Hockey, Soccer and Fighting in America.

The amount of games hasn't changed in a long time, so that wouldn't be why.
As for sponsors, of course that helps make the league financially sound. But they wouldn't just sponsor it for shits and giggles.
