...after his horrible injury from a collision at home plate, MLB implemented a new rule preventing the blocking of the plate...but what good is the new rule if they're not going to call it? ...aside from appearing to being safe anyway, the pitcher covering HP clearly blocked the plate with his foot before receiving the throw. [this morning rant was brought to you by 59 and Chee-tos]
Last night they made it sound like the catcher can't block the plate but any other position player can. But one of them quickly followed that up with, "if this were the regular season he would have been safe".
It would have been hilariously ironic if Posey would have vcompletely blown up the pitcher there. I think the rule specifically says "catcher" though, fwiw
...I'm getting mixed signals on the rules...but I did find this; "A runner attempting to score may not deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher (or other player covering home plate). If, in the judgment of the Umpire, a runner attempting to score initiates contact with the catcher (or other player covering home plate) in such a manner, the Umpire shall declare the runner out (even if the player covering home plate loses possession of the ball)."
Amendment to noted rule: #1-No Player may eat Cheetos on the field; when covering the plate......! #2-No exceptions made, except for Teams with Orange Color Uniform Schemes....! This revision courtesy of Popeye Spinach....!
