What on earth are the Brothers Grimm smoking? http://riveraveblues.com/2014/10/boland-yankees-strongly-considering-omar-minaya-front-office-job-109655/
The only thing that could top this would be the resigning of Stephen Drew to be the Yankees starting SS in 2015.
Spring Training '15 will start year 60 as a fan. Right now they are piling up the crap and when it gets to a point I will drive over to Steinbrenner Field and watch it go up in smoke. I'ts not just the was this team has been handled there are other Baseball Issues that I don't care for. Yankee Baseball is wonderful, but the way Yankee Baseball Business has been lately just doesn't turn my crank.
Looks like they still believe he can build a killer farm system. He just spent time with the Padres....a very strong farm outfit. Latin America is still the market source of choice, old school guy has old school connections. Obviously he was bad at more senior organizational roles...but scouting is his sweet spot. Seriously, before chalking a move up to idiots, try analyzing things from their business perspective. Its an interesting event in a series the FO is taking.
...what? ...instead of looking at it entirely in a business standpoint, try looking at the actual business model, as well as recent history of the farm management, not to mention Minaya's track record. ...there's nothing in Minaya's history to suggest he'd be any better at scouting/acquiring young talent than there was of him being a good GM...there's also nothing in the young Stein's history to suggest they have finally found their ever elusive and much needed mojo. ...this franchise has been in decline since The Boss relinquished control of the team.
Then more the evidence as to why they need to keep making changes. I don't doubt Cashman's is on a short leash BTW....but he's being given an opportunity to rebuild this team and the FO is giving him the opportunity. Its only a Latin america regional position anyway....all he has to do is pick kids he would be willing to trade away and we could have another core4 in no time. As long as he's not in the position to make a Bartolo Colon type deal or say fire Willie Randolph...what's the big deal?
...there isn't one. You are the one who was touting Minaya as being able to "build a killer farm system" and that "Latin America is still the market source of choice"...but now you downplay it by saying "Its only a Latin america regional position anyway". ...well, which is it? ...yup, firing 2 coaches and hiring Minaya is a quantum leap in returning the Yanx to greatness...and will undo the damage done by Cashman over the past several years. [rolls eyes]
Would you prefer...he's Cashman's buddy and he can hire any fucking idiot he wants? We can head scratch mgmt moves all we want, but unless we have real access to discussions - at not the stories planted with writers - its a fucking snipe hunt.
I'll gladly trade one Minaya for two each of Long and Kelleher. Minaya took too much criticism as the Mets' GM....and I think he has already proven himself for having a good scout's eye. Minaya is a good baseball man. I don't blame the Yanks for expecting him to be an asset to the org.
