Meanwhile (game 5, 1-2nd inn), Bumgarner keeps mowing them down with his straight 93 MPH fastball and little wrinkle cutter.

Well, to be fair- these teams aren't quite murderers row.
If I had one too many brews and was watching this WS amoung friends, I would probably blurt out:

"These teams suk..hiccup"

I will try and adjust to it...as it appears with the extra wildcard play in game,that baseball more than any other team sport can and will produce a Championship team with hardly any all-star type /great players /hitters at their postions.

Maybe THIS really is the beauty of baseball -

You may have to wait a long time to see a team from the NFL, NHL and NBA win it's Championship without having a couple/few players who are absolutely at the top of their craft amoung their peers.

Have to admit, I'll take a Yankee WS Championship any day WITHOUT alot of "all-star" type players. lol

 

Bumgarner is the closest thing to a superstar this series has to offer. Another flawless night for the big lefty. 6 shutout innings only 3 hits & 7 strikeouts. We go to the bottom of the 6th with the Giants up 2-0

 

The giants have plenty of talent, and you don't need the best hitter in the league to win the WS. hell, ted williams never won one.

Also, its the playoffs. Fucking crapshoot.

 

ANOTHER gem from Bumgarner. A 4 hit complete game shotout with 8 Ks. Now its back to K.C. needing just one motr.

 

...said it before, but Bumgarner reminds me a lot of Cliff Lee. He doesn't possess a blazing FB or a knee buckling breaking ball but he manages to make pitches when he really needs to.

...he's usually around the plate (about 70% strikes) but he doesn't seem to miss over the plate. He really works the inside and outside corners. Gotta be frustrating for opposing batters.

 

And salary wise he's a steal in today's market because the Giants locked him up early.

2014 = 3.75M
2015 = 6.75M
2016 = 9.75M
2017 = 11.5M
2018 = 12M club option
2019 = 12M club option

 

...yeah, that is a steal. And his contract possibly extends till he's 30 or so.

...smart ball clubs are doing this more and more often. That is to recognized young talent and lock them up before they hit arbitration or the FA market.

 

Would you renegotiate his contract now or wait another year or two?

 

...I'd wait, personally...they have him locked up for another 5 years which will likely be his best years. I don't see any reason to extend him now. Now, if he's still just as good 3-4 years from now, I'd consider it.

...but you just never know when injuries and innings pitched will jump up and bite you.

 

My feelings also, I mean if he's still doing 3 years from now what he's currently doing I'd lock him up long term.

 

Yep, Lock Madison up in 3 years, not til then either.

To often a pitcher is locked up, only to blow an arm out.....thus I'd wait.

 

No need to extend him for a few years, madbum would be getting close to.free agency though, if scherzer gets 200 million, what would madbum get? He's only 25,would be 26 next year.

 

Bumgarner should win the series MVP unless someone else does something extraordinary in the last two games (if it goes that far).

I need to take some time to comment on Bumgarner.


The suff he showed last night (game 5) was terrific...
...great command of three pitches and his curveball was crackling.
I didn't see much from his curveball in his first start (game 1)...but last night it was outright nasty. lol
He locates his fastball very well, up and out of the hitting zone to expand the strike zone.
Every one of his fastballs seems to be where he wants it for a purpose...his cutter is also good.
But the way he locates his fastball and his very sharp curveball makes him an excellent pitcher who does it better in the post season. He's the real deal.

 

...I don't think Scherzer will get anywhere near $200 Mil. If he were 27 or 28, maybe. But he'll be 31 next year and his 2014 numbers were down from the year before. He turned down 6 years/$144 Mil from the Tigers before this season began. He might get another 6 year deal from someone else but I don't see him getting $200 Mil. Hell, that's more than Kershaw makes per year...and he's not the pitcher Kershaw is and he's 5 years older.

 

Personally, I'd take Kershaw of Bums any day.....

However Clayton needs to develop his Pitcher's mentality, that one cannot continue to hang a looping off speed Curveball for his out pitch, (whenever he has 2 strikes on the batter)....

I felt and new, Kershaw was going to hang that curveball to matt adams, in St. Louis. Kershaw's been doing as much all season.

Now the major differences b/t Kershaw and Koufax's Pitchers Mentality, IS: Koufax threw his curve, when batters least expected it. Koufax seemed to have the intuition as well, to know what Pitch a Batter was expecting. Koufax made light work of Mantle in the Series, by keeping Mick off balance. Getting a curveball when Mick expected a fastball, etc.

Koufax mixed up his pitch arsenal, where Kershaw has become too predictable. Hell Koufax still hangs out with the Bums in ST, then some, and is clearly available to give Kershaw a few tips.
