As you know I was very against the contract given to Jacoby Ellsbury.....

now I know some will say its one year and he has 7 more years left at 21.14 million..>OMFG<

    what did we get....

well we got his lowest batting average in his career .271 (not going to include the 18 game season he had in 2010)

we got 71 runs scored...ok that is not just his fault since the rest of the offense was innemic at best...

we got 16 home runs...second best in his career.....16 home runs..impressive..

    27 doubles
    5 triples
    struck out 93 times..

39 stolen bases ...a element that was missing, so that is one plus

419 slugging and 328 on base....

NOT GOOD ENOUGH for a player being paid what he is being paid.

Do not foresee these stats to get any better especially since as he gets older his main attribute, speed, will only regress...

I hated the contract...not thrilled with the player and in 2 years this will look worse than Arods contract

...dislike the contract?...fine...dislike the player?...fine. But no way 2 years from now Ells' contract will be as bad as ARod's.

...ARod will be 41 by the time his contract is up...Ellsbury will be only 33 in 2 years.

no....what I mean is people look at Arod's contract right now and think its a black hole...
people will be saying that and worse in two years about Ellsbury

I don't have a problem with Ellsbury. I do believe Jacoby will come around, to become again, one of the premier CF'rs in the AL.

It's Beltran and his contract I had a prob with before he was signed, and still under negotiations.

I also have a problem with our Scouting Prospects Dept. Why could a kid like Andrelton Simmons get passed over for Cito Culver???? Now that is a serious problem. It has been obvious since 2010, the Yanx had been looking for a Jeter replacement, and what the hell did they come up with???? cito culver-BFD...eh?

...well, again al, Ellsbury will only be 33 in 2 years...now if you're talking 5 years from now, maybe.

...there's no way to compare the 2 contracts to each other because the fact of the matter is that no one knows how long Ellsbury will remain productive but I'm pretty sure that 2 years from now he'll still be an important part of this team and a solid all around CFer.

Of course I would have liked a little more consistency from him but all in all I really didn't have much of a problem with him. And I expect he'll have a much better sophomore season with the Yankees.

Being the third best centerfielder.....in the AL....really start digging deep to make his season look good.
Brett Gardner would love you as his agent.

    That's funny.

    Know what else is funny?
I think Ellsbury is a better CF than Adam Jones.
    Offensive?
I agree last year wasn't a VERY GOOD season for Ellsbury,
..good, not very good. and I realize Adam Jones is at his very best right now (2014).
Yep, Jones can hit twice as many HRs as Ellsbury and has more RBI.

Ellsbury has more than twice as many SB, strikes out considerably less times,
gets on base more often (OBP), and currently has a higher career OPS.

The next couple of seasons will be important - if Ellsbury plays up to his capabilties the Yankees won't complain about his salary....
Adam Jones is a fine player, but I think...this is as good as he gets.

Not to mention the above, BUT, Who else was there in the support capacity? No batters behind him to really protect him trying to steal or threat of a better hitter coming behind him so he would in turn see better pitches??? I agree, the contact is FAR too long and too much money, but he was one of the better players in the game...

In the "perfect" lineup, Ellsbury has to bat lead-off. He probably is better suited as a lead-off hitter which is fine because he just might be/can be the BEST leadoff hitter in the A.L./ MLB.

I also think he was pressing a bit in his first year with the Yanks (with the big contract and batting 3rd).
He has better all around skills than the vast majority of players...has already proven to be a top base stealer, great base runner and capable of hitting "some" HRs (32, 16)..and he is an excellent CF who can make the circus catches and his .293 career BA is nothing to sneeze at.
He's also been an excellent career hitter w/runners on base and w/risp.
