That tomorrow could be Marcus's last game in Autzen!!! I remember when I saw this kids high school football highlights I thought, how is this guy not a top QB in his class? Luckily Helfrich had the same thought when he recruited him!

When Marcus was redshirted and DT was running our high powered arsenal to the national championship I thought, Marcus may be a junior before he sees the field. Will he transfer back home to see playing time? Then DT did the unthinkable and declared! What was HE THINKING as we look back on that decision!? WOW! Non the less that opened the door to the greatest QB Duck fans of our generation may ever know, perhaps even college football will ever know! The QBR doesn't lie!

Many said Bennett would be the heir apparent to DT, but not this Quack, I said ya'll just wait! Mariota is the truth! I always thought Bennett would have made a much better LB to be honest, he sure looked like one...Anyway, we all know what happened and who won that job and for the last 3 years we Duck fans have been truly spoiled!

Marcus has been a Jordan on the field and a gentleman off it! He has made the OOO look like a classy top notch school nationally and made rival coaches pray for schedule we are not on.

That said if tomorrow is to be his last game at home, I hope everyone has it DVR'd if they wont be there live, and this game will be one that seals his Heisman, he deserves so clearly!

Last year I was against him going pro,not even 20, because I thought he needed another year to work on the only part of his game which was being a more vocal leader. Mission accomplished! Although I know every Duck fan myself included, would love him to get his first year of grad school going, it's time for him to become his own franchise at the next level!

It will be very, very, strange not seeing our poised calm assassin out there next year wearing the O.

So take tomorrow, past the game, and our winning, to marvel at how blessed we've been having this general on our field!

Thanks Marcus! A CLASS ACT ALL THE WAY!!

First of all, Both Darren and Chip stated that Chip basically called Darren into his office and let him know that he was going to make Mariota the starting QB the following year, this is exactly why Darren declared for the draft.

Wow! Imagine telling a kid that just walked off the field of a national championship field that he would be demoted the next year for an unproven quantity! Marcus must have been better than I thought! Yet why did he and Bennett have such a competition over spring then? It was clear after spring game that Marcus was head and shoulders above Brian.

It seems near impossible that these quotes didn't find there way onto either of the Duck boards that I frequent. Having just bumped around the web and come up empty, I'm even more doubtful. It also seems totally unlike Kelly to not have players competing for and winning a job like he always does as he's repeatedly claimed he feels that competition makes players better. If true, the summer long competition between Marcus and Bennett was all a charade.

But you've read statements from both Darron & Chip... I hope you'll provide us a link with those quotes

Try using some common sense first and ask yourself if it's believable? If it's believable to you, then we shouldn't have to go any farther. However, if you don't believe me AND you don't try and find the answer AND I prove you wrong once again; What do I get? What's in it for me?

I relayed my reasoning in that thread as to why it doesn't make sense. No one else here claimed to have read those quotes either and though I'm on rivals every day that bombshell you relayed seemed to have slipped by them too. Just to be sure I searched and came up empty. So then I asked you to relay them and you didn't

Not that you care, but you would certainly gain credibility in my eyes if you're able to relay these claimed quotes from both Chip and Thomas. Will you please do that?

So I can gain credibility for you being an ass to me??? Lol. So I will search my 4tb of duck video just to make you happy? I'll do it on my time (not yours) and you're going to lose credibility with me. Just remember, there's more venues for information than just rivals and similar? Just remember that there's a REASON why Thomas bolted to the NFL despite bad NFL scouting and draft reports about him while Mariota was coming off a redshirt.

I 100% stand by my statement about Chip and Darren

asking you politely to back up what seems to be an outrageous claim is being an ass? Not surprising that you're taking this tact.

Of course I'm well aware that there are other venues for info then the two I mentioned, but both of those spots have many die hards who gather their info from multiple sources. Heck, rivals board even has some parents of players as posters. It seems near inconceivable that these sort of bombshells wouldn't have made their way to either spot... or the Oregonian... or google. These aren't throwaway quotes you're claiming. The most unbelievable thing about them is that, if true, Chip would basically be saying that he'd held a public fraud of a competition between MM & Bennett. Canzano would have beat that horse to death and kept going for weeks

You mean besides that he'd received his degree and already started for two years? Does anyone here think his draft reports would have changed all that much with another year at Oregon? As far as things the pros value, he would never be bigger, faster, or have a bigger arm then he'd already shown... he'd certainly not get any better operating a pro style offense under center. Dude had 66 TDs and only 17 Ints leading the team to back to back conference titles with his final game being the awesome Rose Bowl vs Wisconsin, so he was a proven winner. The stats weren't likely to get much better then that for him. During his final season he suffered a knee injury that noticeably slowed him. Why should he continue to take shots playing for free? I'm never surprised when a graduated Redshirt Senior moves on with a year of eligibility left, top shelf pro prospect or not.

while you're looking up those quotes for us here (I'm sure lots of us would enjoy reading them) here's an article from the O you might like

"what else can I do here?"

    Chip Kelly -

Soon, Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota will win the Heisman Trophy. His former coach at Oregon knew it would happen several years ago.

“When he was a freshman, I remarked, ‘This kid is going to win the Heisman,’” Eagles coach Chip Kelly told reporters on Thursday. “He’s a special young man and he’s a hell of a football player and he deserves it. But I don’t think it’s any impact that I had. The type of kid that he is, he had an impact on everybody that had an opportunity to coach him. I’m sure [Oregon coach] Mark Helfrich and [Oregon offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach] Scott Frost would tell you the same thing. He’s just a special young man and very deserving of the award.”

So what impresses Kelly the most?

“I think it’s how he handles himself, his demeanor and all of those things, that really kind of sets him apart,” Kelly said. “He’s a special young man from that standpoint. . . . He’s just got a gift for playing football. He’s everything you want. He can throw the ball, he can run. He’s the most talented kid that I coached in college.”

awesome non-sequitor... wheres the link to those pretend quotes of yours?

Since you quoted from the link I provided, I'm going to assume you read it. Did you see the part where Kelly was said to have repeatedly tried to talk Darron out of declaring early for the draft? How exactly are we to imagine that those conversations went?

~I know you've already graduated Darron, but we're going to bench you next year for Marcus and think it would be in your best interest to stay at Oregon and hold a clipboard.

    Haha... completely absurd

Stomp, that article was fucking depressing. I was a fan of DT, with all the read option stuff going on you would think he could have latched on somewhere as a practice squad guy at least

I was too, but it's long odds to play in the NFL. Dude was far from pinpoint in his passes and didn't have much of a gun either. Skinny and (following his knee injury) not fast either which is pretty important factor of running the read option. While I rooted for him, at no point did I think he was going to be much (if anything) in the league. I respect that he's still pursuing his dream, but I don't think it's going to happen

On the other hand, I called Mariota a bigger more athletic Joe Montana before he'd ever taken a snap at Oregon

    Stomp,

Seriously.......I can not believe that you continue to take your stance that you are. Seriously..... you should just admit temporary in sanity in the common sense area. I have already given you facts about Darron Thomas (rooted for him as well), a clear statement from Coach Kelly about Mariota as a true freshman (meaning non redshirt); do I really need to show Thomas admitting that Mariota was better than Thomas when he (Mariota) was redshirting?

At this point, I'm on a rescue mission in trying to protect you FROM YOU.

The only thing you've shown us is that you suck at reading comprehension and like to make stuff up. I've offered 100$ to make it worth your while so just stop with the silly attacks, excuses & BS. Where is the link to these explosive quotes? Past time to put up or shut up

    provide this...
prove to us that Chip was lying with statements/quotes from both Kelly that he (completely opposite of his stated coaching policy) wasn't going to have competition decide the QB spot like he has done every year for every position. Show us that the public competition between MM & Bennett was a complete farce. Or you could be a stand up guy and admit you were wrong.

I was the one who told Darren he had to leave or give up his starting spot to Mariota.

    There, argument solved.

jokes aside, it's not really an argument Sly, it's about relaying credible information on the subject we're all tuning in for when facts are few and far between. Why should I (or anyone) just stand by when someone is repeatedly introducing obvious bullshit into our discussions? Asking that poster to provide a link to back up a ridiculous what I read & stand by 100% claim isn't an argument, it should be expected.

If the poster provides a link and it's true, we all win for learning more about the subject we're here for. If they don't, hopefully that poster won't continue to muddy the waters with more worthless BS in the future.

    :-)

I wish it were that easy...... :-)

STOMP likes to get into everyone's face and pretend that he's "All Things Ducks" guy. It's predictable that he has an attitude that if he isn't aware of something than it must not be true. He gets aggressive and in people's faces. I have numerous people on video reporting that Darren was told by Chip that he had no promises of a starting position in the next years team and this is why Darren went to the NFL. The problem is that I don't have the time to go through 4 TB's of video to find the 3-4 people who reported it right now but I will when I actually have the time which can be with in the next few weeks or so.
