I'm all for some disillusioned destruction in the name of trying to show people you care about something. They should all be armed though.
Those guys are idiots. If I was trying to get through and they wouldn't let me I'd probably be that guy on the news arrested for running over protestors.

And yeah, if you're stupid and standing in the middle of the street and making no attempt to move, and you're intentionally blocking cars, the car can and will continue to move. Portland Police has already cited at least one protester who was hit while in the street (and making no attempt to get out of the street). I'm all for freedom of speech, protesting, etc. But consider the time, the place, the message, the forum. These clowns were nothing but hoodlums looking for a reason to loiter and be douchebags. This isn't protesting. They're hoodlums, being opportunistic vultures, hijacking a legit message/purpose for their own purpose of being d-bags.
