I am surprised they chose to add 5 mil to the payroll but as I've said a couple times,
Drew could very well ressurect his career somewhat with a full ST and at least provide a steady glove and chip in with a few HRs and I want to believe he can hit .240 or better.
Remember, this is not an OLD player and not very long ago put up good OPSs.

But I do have a problem with MLB Trade Rumors which quickly assumed the Yanks probably won't be go with Refsnyder and/or Pirela at 2b. Take a look at this....in MLB Trade Rumors OWN article:

The addition of Drew likely means that prospects Rob Refsnyder and Jose Pirela will no loneger be competing for the second base job in Spring Training, as many had assumed would be the case. However, since both are right-handed hitters, either could conceivably end up as part of a second base platoon with Drew. Refsnyder, in particular, crushed left-handed pitching last season, batting .385/.447/.587 in 161 plate appearances. Of course, Pirela’s .319/.382/.493 line versus southpaws from 2014 is also highly impressive.

Drew is an insurance policy for 2b and SS.
If he comes close to what he was couple yrs ago, he'll be an asset.

If your shaking your head over the Yanks laying out 5 mil based on what we saw last year from Drew I would agree.

If your shaking your head over my opinion (and the Yanks) about what he can/may provide on the field, then I guess you also believe like most that a 32 yr old who had a .777 OPS two seasons ago and didn't have a ST last yr is all washed up.

He could be washed up and done.....
.....or he could bounce back with decent numbers as a backup/part time SS-2b.

    We're going to find out.

I am surprised to read this myself this morning. Guess they were just not comfortable going with a rookie. Now if they could get another SP.

^^^Jeets, I'm still scratching my head on the Drew signing. Trying to read Cash's "compass" is making my head hurt and I'm not very sure he has an actual plan because some of the moves seem to contradict others at this point...but yeah, he better at least land a front end starter.

Another diminished chord in the 2015 repertoire, I wanted to see those kids compete.

Problem with Cashman's compass, Is its reverse polarized.

When I go to scratch my head over Cashman's move, I use a Marine IED Impact Helmet...! LOL...!

blg, you hit it on the head, CAN DREW HIT .240?

I'd like to see him hit .300, but I think we all know that's not going to happen.

I know Drew can hit better, I know the Minors are NOT always a good indicator, yet I cannot stop looking at his (Local) Lancaster A+ JetHawks, CA-LG. numbers; in only 38 games. If a player looks cold, or not promotable, they can spend eternity in this god forsaken desert dump. Otherwise they get promoted pretty fast:

    CA Lg numbers for Drew:
Tho' he only played in 38 games before promotion, he won the League Batting Title.

    149 AB

    33 Runs

    16 Doubles

    3 Triples

    10 HR's

    39 RBI's

    1 SB
    1 CS

    26 BB
    25 K's

    .389 B'Avg

    .436 OBP

    .738 SLG

    1.224 SLG

110 TB's in 38 games, not shabby for a new comer in 2005 (then and still the Astro's Affiliate). Won the CA. Lg Championships in 012 and 014.

I was shaking my head over him being signed period... I don't care if it was for $1... He's not worth it and taking a roster spot away from Robert Refsnyder

I agree with your view Hammer.....I honestly don't see Drew doing any better this year, simply because he will have a full Spring Training under his belt, I just don't see it.....!

And we have been making all these bizarre moves which have been making us younger... well, let's continue the process and let the damn kids play... why continue with an older over-hyped player when you have someone in the minors like Robert Refsnyder who has been improving or succeeding at each level?

I'm beginning to wonder if these kids will ever get a chance. BUT.......with that said it may not be bad insurance in case the kid DiDi doesn't pan out. We'll see.

Where does one draw the line between giving kids a chance and realizing they're a failed experiment...

I'm starting to think he's either smoking crack, is bipolar or has dementia....can't be the latter he's not as old as Rick.
