You'd have to talk to someone who is adequately acquainted with the content of the Koran in order to do that. I am not that person, nor do I profess to be. I haven't made any comments or claims regarding the Koran's teachings; I'm only equipped to exigete those of the Bible.
What's the point of this thread, if not bomb throwing, hatred instigating against Muslims? The act of the very few do not at all reflect the truth about the people. Just as the abortion clinic bombers don't represent all Christians. The people throwing these bombs are thumping their bibles hard and it really needs to be pointed out that anyone can cherry pick from their own "good book" and find whatever they want in it. I have no beef with your choices regarding your belief system. If it helps you sleep at night, more power to you. Just don't force it on me or anyone else is all I ask. And don't pretend it's more righteous than anyone else - that's an outright insult, ya know?
Good question about the thread. Perhaps you should pose it to the person who started it. My only commentary herein has been regarding the intentional mischaracterization of Biblical scripture. It is amusing, however, that the person who started this thread with which you take such issue is an avowed atheist, and the person who has made the most claims regarding Islam is a self-described agnostic, yet you reserve your greatest vitriol for Bible-thumping Christians. Perhaps your outrage is misdirected.
I didn't mischaracterize anything. I quoted the scripture in question verbatim. I don't need someone to explain away the beating religion into someone with a rod to mean something less violent, thanks. The person who started this thread is anti-religion, period. You might look at the actual youtube page and see the kinds of things people post in response to it. Like this one. Christian? And, the people in the video aren't necessarily acting on any religious motive. The Brittish conquered them and occupied their lands, installed dictators before leaving, and the like. When they were finally free of those things, they wanted to wipe out any remnants of the occupiers.
Sure you did, but you're not interested in hearing how you mischaracterized Christ's words, you're only interested in using them for your own agenda, so I'll leave you to it. Have a nice day.
As I've stated, Denny and other atheists, will overlook any and all inhumanity another group in their ideology, but will generalize an entire group for the acts of a small group in a theist's ideology. If Denny truly wanted to have a decent discussion, his responses to you would be much different.
And I don't judge atheists for the terrible acts of the communists or other in their group that do terrible inhuman acts. So what's your point? Do you read anything in what I've said that proclaims Muslims are all evil? Talk to your atheist brother that started this thread.
How is a verbatim quote mischaracterizing anything? There are dozens if not hundreds of similar verbatim quotes I could provide. All you keep suggesting is you have a way to explain it away.
MarAzul is not an atheist brother. Nor are all the talking heads on Fox News that spew religious bullshit and anti-Muslim hate speech.
Maris61 is... I said "who started it", not "who you decided to argue with". And don't think it's just Fox News that spews the anti-Muslim hate news. Are you reaching here?! And I like how you didn't even properly respond to my statement about the generalization of an ideology, ignore if you will. This is your tool. And generalizing Fox News is just more proof on how you ignore and generalize
http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/fox-news-top-five-islamophobic-smears I cannot stomach the channel anymore due to it's constant bible thumping and anti-muslim themes. Frequent use of the term "religion of peace" as if to mock the billions of followers. It's gone from being a conservative news outlet (which is fine) to a glorified 700 club and KKK-like hate mongering platform.
Fine--I'll give you one post: Matthew 25:41--Yes, those who reject Christ will be subject to eternal punishment. Of course the point of that parable (Matt. 25:31-46) is that devotion to God while ignoring your fellow man is false religion, a notion that is consistent throughout the New Testament. Romans 2:6-8--In the context of the chapter, those who are under the law and seek to justify themselves by the law will be condemned through the law. Fortunately, as is also detailed in the book of Romans, those who place their faith in Christ are no longer under the law, but are under grace. Proverbs 23:14--Quite obviously advice to not withhold discipline from children. Corporal punishment is indicated because it was the standard practice for the time. The point is discipline, not violence. Nowhere in those verses does the Bible say what you originally posited, which was "Obey the church or burn in Hell". That was the mischaracterization with which I first took issue, and which remains unsupported because it is not a scriptural position.
I went back and re-read your entire arguments. 1st, the Atheist started this thread (Maris), then an agnostic/atheist (blazercaravan) responded, then you went "ham" with your anti-Christian rant before a single theist chimed in. But here is the funny thing. You are defending the Muslim faith, using historical crusades from centuries ago of atrocities made by Christians, only further putting down Muslims. You have become quite the bigot Denny. You claim you support equality, but your statement about Muslims and comparing them to ideology that was practiced hundreds of years ago only supports your belief that Muslims are lower than you. Your digs on Christians also support your bigotry on theism. Such a hypocrite
I do not defend any faith. What a moronic interpretation of my position yet again. I fully admit I hope that Reason finally trumps belief in fairy tales.
But you have, your reading and writing comprehension is the problem. But it's pretty apparent you aren't all there when you suspected marazul started this thread.
So here's another generalization of an entire ideology based on one man's view? So I can represent the entire "atheist ideology" based on Stalin as well?
I suspected no such thing. I did respond to MarAzul. His logic is only slightly worse than yours. As far as comprehension goes, do you not get the difference between respecting Muslims and defending Islam? Way over your head, apparently. Muslims are people like you and I. Get it? They're not some monolithic bunch of Islamofascists, as Fox News would call them.
Wrong marazul didn't respond until after you went ham on Christians. So once again, your fairytale arguments are exposed. You're just a bigot Denny... Admit it P.S. Why bring up "Fox News"? Only person that brought them up is you. And I like how you say the network are Christians as well. How many of them actually admit they are? Oh yeah! Another generalization by you. I see why you don't believe in God because you live in your own private fairytale! Lol
