Have you considered Math? Gardner's OBP leaves a lot to be desired. We all know he's not known as a "power hitter". OBP - .327 BA - .256 That's a lot of times NOT getting on base On base more often = more opportunities to steal a base. wow ...and these are "baseball fans"? Beam me up Scotty.
Genius try & keep up, no one is talking about his OBP were talking about what he does when he DOES get on base. Or better yet what he DOESN'T do when he gets on base. He had PLENTY of opportunities last season but because of his lack of knowledge on the base paths & his inability to read the pitchers he sucked plain & simple. Seriously. did this really need explaining?
...reading comprehension/retention is not your friend...I swear it seems like your drunk 1/2 the time you post.
And? Care to point out any inaccuracies with Gardner's numbers I supplied? Maybe you believe he won't have more opportunities to steal bases if he reached base more often? .327 OBP......he ISNT an aggressive base stealer...so, if he could/should reach base more often, he should/ could steal more bases. You seem to be in the "majority" disagreeing with me when I said (post 6): ..the difference between Gardner stealing 25/35 bases and stealing 40-50 bases is not a major factor in the Yankees qualifying for a playoff spot.... You're move professor. And any other "yes men" are welcome.
The Yankees' most glaring embarrassing weakness last year was scoring runs. Can we agree on that? They were 3rd from the bottom in the A.L in scoring, ...4 runs more than Houston, 21 more than Tampa. The Yanks were 3rd best in the A.L. in SB with 112. I guess if Gardner can steal 20/30 more bases the Yanks are in the postseason next year. lol C'mon.....you're barking up the wrong tree. If Gardner hit .265-.275 with an OBP of approx .350 you wouldn't be talking about him stealing only 21 bases.
Yes & if Gardner knew how to steal bases (reading the pitchers) he would have gotten into scoring position more often giving the team more chances to score MORE RUNS. Again, does this REALLY need explaining?
Okay, sounds good. How does THIS sound: Bernie Williams was a very fast base runner, he could never become a big time SB guy. We didn't complain (at least I didn't) much at all because he HIT! I would like to see Gardy steal more bases....and how many do you think he should get on a yearly basis? 40? 50? Okay fine and if this 2015 team "hits" and scores runs like they did last year, I doubt very much if they make the playoffs. My big problem with Gardner is he doesn't/can't get more bunt singles! Let's play "Let's make a deal".... You can have Gardner steal 20(?) more bases with a similar offense as last year.... ....and I'll settle for a similar amount of SB 21(?) from Gardner with a Yankee lineup in the top 3rd in the league in scoring!
WTF does Bernie Williams have to do with this? Bernie was NEVER a stolen base guy. NEVER led the league in stolen bases, NEVER stole more then 17 bases in a season & only had a 62% success rate. That's it I'm done.
Do you not comprehend simple English, give it up already....... I don't see no one here agreeing with you, as much as I don't see anyone who thinks Gardner with His Speed, does NOT need some base stealing tutoring....NO DOUBT, Gardner if he can ever learn to steal consistently without a high throw out pctg. sure as Hell will equate to more Runs Scored. Is that the elementary Math you were talking about? Perhaps you should indeed take up Hockey as your primary sport, with a couple of years of English Reading Comprehension 101, and 102......again Ebonics seems to be the Prob indeed....!

..."professor"?..."yes men"?.....lmao. ... you're making this way to easy and like I said, reading comprehension/retention is not your friend. Once again you've totally missed the point and gone off on yet another irrelevant tangent. (message board self mutilation personified) ...the Gardner shortcoming that Rick brought up was his poor base running/stealing instincts regardless of how often he got on base...you then opened up a can of dumb-ass by interjecting "OBP" which has absolutely nothing to do with Gardner's ability to steal bases and read pitchers' moves.
He struck out 134 times last year, highest of his career...kinda slows down you're opportunities to steal bases when you're batting .256 with an OBP of.327 and 134 Ks. He has stolen well over 40 bases in back to back seasons a few yrs ago and his OBP in those years was much more respectable than last year's. So we all would like to see him steal more bases...and it sounds like you expect at least 30-50(?) SB per year from him???...okay fine. Have you considered maybe, possibly these last two Yankee teams (2013-14) have been BEHIND in the score more than in the past? And I still stay the Yankees' biggest problem and weakness has been their HITTING, with Gardner stealing "only" 21 bases low on the list of Yankee problems. He stole 20 something bases in 2013....and 21 last year, he has stolen over 40 bases two previous times in his mid-20s......maybe he can/should be a 30something SB guy and that will not - as I've said , IMO - will not be a difference maker in the team's chances of making the post season if they don't significantly improve in the run scoring dept. So - which will it be? Door number 1 You can have Gardner steal 20(?) more bases with a similar offense as last year.... Door number 2 Have a similar amount of SB 21(?) from Gardner with a Yankee lineup in the top 3rd in the league in scoring! Take you're time, you can ask for help. lol
