So what's the advantage of buying out a player? I've seen that a lot this year, but don''t understand what advantage it is to the team.

Why are the clippers wanting to trade Crawford? He's been great for them hasn't he?

small $$ savings, and stretched out, a smaller cap hit. If Martin is bought out, instead of 7a year for 2 years, they can stretch it to that 14 against the cap over 5

Reportedly they want a 1st round pick in return which they could then use to trade for a wing like Chandler or Afflalo.

Not necessarily against Jamal. I thought he was used incorrectly by Nate when he was here. McMillan tried to use him like Brandon Roy, and that's simply not who he is.

That's not fair to Bennett, he should have never been taken #1. That's on the Cavs. Dumbest #1 pick ever, perhaps.

Yeah, there was talk on the day of the draft that he could slide down to where Portland was drafting. That's how wide open that #1 spot was.

If the Wolves are considering buying out Martin, then shouldn't he (theoretically) be available in trade for a heavy discount?

For instance, say Denver insists on CJ instead of Will, and Minnesota wants to ditch Martin for even less than the buyout. This could work for everyone.

Two things that won't work. To claim the player, the team with the worst record has first dibs, then so on. Second, you need enough cap space to absorb his total contract, because you assume the contractual responsibility for that player.

He will clear waivers because only philly has a good shot at getting him. I doubt they pick him up

Sam Amick (USA Today) said about Jamal Crawford to Portland now on @750TheGame … thinks it would be a great fit for the Blazers

Jamal isn't worth the 1st rounder it would take to get him. He is 35 next month and he isn't shooting well.

Imagine Crawchuck comes here, and the fans boo him the first time he's announced. I would. It would be delicious.

Dwight Jaynes has the inside scoop on this whole blazers deadline thing:
Awesome reporting. It's not like Olshey didn't say this at his all-star weekend press conference, oh wait...

I was dicking around on the trade machine and I think I'd do this trade...

    Portland: Jamal Crawford, Wilson Chandler

Los Angeles: Chris Kaman, Allen Crabbe, Alonzo Gee

Denver: Thomas Robinson, Will Barton and Portland's 2015 1st round pick

Then we go grab Jerm and Tayshaun Prince (if he is bought out).

    Lillard / Blake
    Matthews / Crawford / McCollum
    Batum / Chandler / Prince
    Aldridge / Leonard / Wright / Claver
    Lopez / Freeland / O'Neal

That would be a good team in the playoffs with proven depth.

Too many roster moves. I think if he does anything it will be in one transaction

One of the teams on Dragic's wishlist is (oddly) the Heat. The only asset the Heat has to offer is Deng. But I don't think the Suns really want Deng. But he would be a very nice bench piece for us. So how about a three way where Miami gets Dragic (and Dorell Wright, who I think is still buddies with Wade), we get Deng and we give the Suns their pick of T-Rob, Leonard, CJ et al. (T-Rob and Leonard would actually probably work better in their system).

Jermaine isn't coming back this season. Moving kaman for Crawford makes little sense.

The suns are still in playoff contention, and could use am upgrade at starting sf. Why would they pass on Deng for our bench fodder? Why wold they want Robinson at all?
