The Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers are frontrunners to sign center Kendrick Perkins once his contract buyout is completed, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Los Angeles Clippers have also registered interest with Perkins too, sources said.

While Perkins has an interest in joining the Dallas Mavericks, owner Mark Cuban says his team has no intention of signing the 12-year NBA veteran to a deal.

Oklahoma City traded Perkins, 30, to the Utah Jazz as part of a package that sent Enes Kanterto the Thunder on Thursday. The Jazz plan to work with Perkins’ representatives at Wasserman Media Group to come to a buyout agreement on the $7.1 million on the final year of his deal.

Perkins has a history with Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau and Clippers coach Doc Rivers from their time together in Boston, where Perkins played eight seasons. Perkins’ talents have diminished in the past few years, but his toughness and leadership still make him a valued presence in contending locker rooms.

    Wayyyy better than Nazr.

And letting him go to Cleveland only helps us, right?

In his prime, Mohammed was a significantly better scorer, but Mohammed's prime was long, long ago.

Perkins is essentially a non-scorer, but he's still one of the toughest post defenders in the league. It'd be a little ironic if the Bulls' lone mid-season addition is yet another big, but I'd love to see Perkins join the team.

The thing is, the Cavs have to go to really small lineups when Mozgov is out (resting, foul trouble, misses a game). With Perkins, they wouldn't have that problem.

So we sign him just to keep the Cavs from getting him. That alone is a good reason.

Not a move we'd make if it put us into LT.

You've got LT on the brain, man. You should get that checked.

I don't know what makes Perkins tick, but I'd guess that the Cavs have the big edge in terms of ring chasing and probable playing time. The Bulls and Clips have the previous relationship advantage.

The organization has LT on the brain.

Every possible move we'd make has to consider the LT.

    Be realistic.

The Kendrick Perkins situation has nothing to do with the LT. I feel certain that Bulls management have given no thought to the LT with regard to the potential acquisition of Perkins. You however, raised the LT issue like a nervous tick.

It has everything to do with it. He won't put us over, so he is an actual consideration.

How many times do you have to hear the financial flexibility excuse before reality sinks in?

Financial flexibility isn't an excuse, it's common sense.

    It's an excuse for inaction.

You don't see that load of crap coming from Portland, a much smaller market team. Or Dallas. Or any team with a good owner.

At least that excuse is better than, "we didn't want to trade for Pau because we'd have to surround him with good (expensive!) players."

Ugh. Cavs are fixing their weak spots quite nicely.

The Bulls stood pat. It's what they do.

    Fixed?

    They didn't do squat.

    I'll play these.

Even though the chances are mixed that we can win.

Is the Bulls management so confident in this team?

I understand that Perkins wasn't the big thing to Bulls like he is for the Cavs. But was there no offer that could help the Bulls? Staying pat is really the standard for Bulls, isn't it?
