...lol...more approximations?...actually the way DRob's contract is structured, the Yanx would have saved only $1 Mil not $5 Mil this year over what Miller cost...furthermore, the "draft pick" reference is not even worth mentioning because the Yanx also get a draft pick from Detroit who signed DRob. .

...and it's silly to suggest that the Yanx would have signed ALL of the players you mentioned. (4-5 pitchers & 3 position players and 1 DH).

I think it is a sensible disciplined "plan" and I think they're showing some balls with the SP by going with Warren, Eovoldi possibly Severino later on and waiting on Nova.

No doubt the kid Eovoldi got knocked around last year.....there's also no doubt it wasn't long ago when he was highly touted and he does have a good live arm.

I know this will make you laugh, but if just Eovoldi and Gregorious are early pleasant surprises, the Yanks will already be ahead of "schedule".

Okay, go ahead and laugh at me.....its all good. lo!

^^^if the Yanx are truly trying to "hold the line on payroll", why didn't they keep Prado instead of signing Headley?...Prado's contract is more friendly. He points to the Yanx "saving $5 Mil" (actually only $1 mil this year) on Miller over DRob...but discounts the fact that the Yanx turned around and spent $52 Mil ($13 Mill x 4 years) on Headley instead of keeping Prado for $22 Mil ($11 Mil x 2 years)...and Prado is more versatile defensively and better offensively.

    ...is this the "new math"?

They received Eovoldi, Garrett Jones (see help in 1b, DH production) and young pitcher Domingo German who done very well so far in his short ML experience.

My gosh, you must really despise me. Jeez.... lol

How about someone talk about this teams non existent bench and complete lack of depth? Injuries will likely come as they always do and then it will be another parade of mediocrity gracing the roster.

The way I see it now Vic as far as bench players, Garrett Jones, John Murphy, Chris Young & the powerful hard hitting Brendan Ryan.

Just glad he didn't go to the dodgers

The giants have a sneaky large payroll, I think they are at around 170ish, 4th in baseball behind the dodgers, Yankees, and red Sox. And they aren't predicted to be great either (despite the continued WS titles, I think they won like 88 games last year) and they got worse IMO. I would compare the giants more to the Yankees in that regard.

Giants have some Money coming off the books after this season (Timmy 17+, I think around 40 total), but the gulf between them and the top 3 spenders is real, there was no talk about moncada, in fact a deflating "hes too rich for our blood" quote from sabean, before the bidding even started! Its depressing but the dodgers are just in a whole another world financially. The ability and willingness to go over the luxury tax is a serious advantage when you get down to the big ticket guys.

Whether they got worse or not remains to be seen. I mean much like the Yankees there's a lot of IF'S, Cain coming back strong, A full season of Belt who was hot before his early season injury, Hopefully a healthy Pagan (who missed most of last season) back at the top of the lineup, and perhaps the reconciliation of Lincecum with his dad (who taught him how to pitch) will improve his game. And hopefully McGhee could be a nice replacement for Sandoval.

My bad, excuse me - but its not all that bad.
German was one of the Marlins top young pitching prospects.
He'll turn 23 in August, in his minor league career, he has a 2.33 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.
Last year he made 25 starts/ 123 IP with a 2.48 ERA and 1.14 WHIP.

He came along in the Eovoldi trade and I think its safe to say he adds more "good" young pitching depth. My mistake for saying he had MLB service but I wouldn't be surprised to see him up here unfortunately if injuries hit the SP.

Ervin Santana, you sure you don't have your Santana's crossed, b/t Johan or Carlos, certainly NOT Ervin....

Living in So. Cal, and getting all Home and Away Halos/Bums games, when Ervin first began his career, in 05, he caught my attention, but Ervin couldn't do much to retain any fans attention let alone Team(s) plural. I'd venture to say, plenty of Teams were desperate for anyone who could throw a strike, on occasion or eat up innings, while allowing more runs, hits, walks than the average bear. Ervin fit that bill only....

    On the flip side,

Santana's career, as illustrious as it has NOT been.

119 Wins - 100 Losses, His 4.17 ERA, nothing less than Stellar, 1,882.2 IP, with 1827 Hits, 937 Runs, 245 HR's, 589 Walks, with another stellar 1.283 WHIP.....you gotta' be kidding me....!!! Ask Scioscia what he thinks, or why did he let Ervin go, since Santana is such a stellar SP....?

Ervin is proof, Teams are downright desperate for Pitchers of Mediocrity. These Teams think Ervin can eat up innings, or finish a CG, yet, its actually quit the opposite. Santana is a misfit, cast out of one org after another. If one considers the Twinkies multi-year Contract a bargain, those few are fooling themselves. NTM-Santana has shown to be consistent in one area alone, ie, Unable to win the big game(s). Let alone survive on the mound for more than 5 innings of Big Must Win Games.....

If one is going to even mention Ervin Santana, then at least hi-jack the thread to a real class act Santana:

One Paul Reed Smith guitar owned by the great Carlos, is worth more in hand than a dozen Ervin's on a mound...

...to use your woefully misguided term, are you being "convalescing"?...lmao

...and "despise you"?...I don't even know you...wow, just wow.

...I didn't mention the players you referenced because they are fringe players or prospects...I also didn't mention the Yanks trading away Phelps but evidently that escaped you as well.

...and instead of blindly building up players to support your agenda, try educating yourself first on their actual value and experience.

Oh Rick, by the way regarding German, you may recall when the Yanks made that trade highlighted by Eovoldi, many/most of the baseball media outlets didn't even mention the inclusion of German also being acquired in that trade which had many of us scratching our heads after looking over both his "numbers" and age.

Not farfetched to think of this kid as a possible "sleeper" in that trade.
Certainly has done very well last year as a SP (25 minor league starts) under his belt with over 120 IP - 2.48 ERA, 1.14 WHIP

And I thought I was the only one who rambled on.....but.....at least I told a story.....this (noted above & quoted, is just pure childish gibberish)........

The Nightmare is over, you can put your sword back in its sheath, and your cap-gun, back in yer little holster....and.......unplug the Key Board...! Hell, just turn off the PC....!

hatever it is, it sure beats waving the white flag before the season/SF
    Phelps, lol, Cercelli's DL partner.
And your man Tiger Woods is more well done than Arod.
My "agenda", lol......it sure beats waving the white flag before the season begins.....
but then again I'm not quite as sophisticated and not running with the herd.
