I was just about to post this. Watching the game CC looks like nothing has changed. 2 runs on 4 hits in 2 innings & a 3rd run saved by a great play by McCann at the plate.
You're a step ahead of me tonight Ron. He really hasn't looked good so far this spring. Lets hope he can get it together. Also I couldn't believe that Drew came through with an RBI single. But then again, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
We got the Yanx first two ST games, and haven't been so lucky as to see another yet. Kinda' the same way last year, weeks without a game, then suddenly a shift, and the Yanx often averaged 3 games a week on one channel or another out here. Hope that's still the case, this year. Yet, in those great dynasty years, of 1 Yanx Series Championship after another, we'd avg 5 games a week, most times, weeks, .......... Yet, take any other W.S. Champ Team, and we rarely see those "other" teams, on a oft weekly basis..... God too, IS a Yankee Fan.......!!! As for our arch nemesis, they don't get much coverage if at all out here, thankfully.......
With the help of a great strong accurate relay from Gregorious. If this kid can hit .240-245-ish, he'll be a significant asset to the team/pitching staff. The reason why I brought up those batting numbers is because that will be good enough for him to be THE regular SS and as a 6'2" 200 lb LH hitter, don't be surprised if he pops a few HRs over the RF fence. He's loaded with talent.....could be, maybe, possibly a great deal by Cashman.....and it'll look even better if Shane Greene doesn't turn into a top flight pitcher. Sorry ' bout that....but I just felt this needed to be said since Cashman and the TEAM has already been written off as a failure. This was CC's first start.... did notice him hitting 90 mph ? I think this board has evolved into a bunch of vintage George Steinbrenners. I guess if CC wasn't under a big contract, you guys would demand to release him after this first ST start. My god!
"Sir Didi", did you hear about his knighting? For playing baseball, from whatever Island he played for, during the WBC, or other Pan-Am games....amazing, play baseball as Willie Mays pointed out when alot of us were still kids, "they actually pay you to play baseball"...........they actually Knight you and call your Sir, like a Knight, not just cuz they got nice manners........!
2 things stand out to me right away this year vs last, with not just the Yanx but in MLB period. 1- Last year, I only saw one base stealer thrown out ONE time in April; 2 more in May, not much in June, and only by August did it look like base stealer's from 1st to 2nd were finally being picked of with regularity. 2- I did not see one ST SP; or RP, throwing harder than 92, on rare occasion 93 mph; this time last year in ST. Already this ST, I've seen several SP's already throwing 96mph. Of course, those SP's who began slow in the low 90 mph range, reached the mid to higher 96-98 mph after a couple months of work. These Pitchers today who are already throwing 96 out of the gate, will either blow their arms out, or will be throwing over 100 mph (maybe) by the A.S break or sooner.... All this logic applies to all, but to one Pitcher, ie, Aroldis Chapman, he's flat out been in a world of his own, since MO' retired.....
90? That's supposed to make me feel good? He's got half the velocity delta between pitch types compared to 2012. It all looks the same to the batter....so you get 2R in 2 IP. He may feel good, but that doesn't translate into quality starts.
...I know I've said this before, but..."same shit, different day". ...Why must you turn nearly every thread into your personal soap box with the same singular redundant topic?
To clarify, CC touched 96 on the juiced for TV gun and sat at 91-93, hitting 94 on scout's guns. Not bad for his first time out. I don't have high expectations for CC but hope that he can pitch close to a 4-4.5 era and eat innings.
...different scouts' guns showed different speeds...(90-92) which ain't bad but could also be attributed to the elevated adrenalin form being so "nervous"...but overall, his location was not good...he was not hitting his spots. He might get away with reduced velo on the corners but he can't keep missing in the strike zone. ...the hits he gave up were not cheap ones either and only some great play from the defense kept the damage to a minimum.
It it weren't so sad and redundant, it would be hilarious/funny, ie our one self anointed anal-yst rants, like a kid crying over spilled milk, even when the baba (bottle) is empty....! Kinda' gives new meaning to beating a dead horse, in this case Horse(s)......
This is why I said look at the pitch fx DATA for weeks now...oy. Expectations that 3 years later he reverts to the 2012 version is just unrealistic. The number of pitchers able to reinvent themselves is a very short list. And I get no impression from CC that he can decouple his world view from his past performance level. Until he comes to grips with the fact that he's not gonna get outs the same way he used to, he's gonna by a >5 era gas can.
