Anybody hitting well; it's only spring training. Pitchers getting work in and not throwing perfect games; he sucks. CC hitting 94 and getting Ks in his 2nd outing while working on his change. I'll take that at the moment. Looking much better than last year at this time.
Last year on the Steven A. Smith Show Sabathia was a guest. Can't remember who the other sports commentator was but the man to Sabathiats face stated that CC stood for Can't Compete. Never have really been a fan of an alleged ace that can't beat Boston or Tampa Bay. What was that old Dire Straits song about money for nothing.
Mets' Matt Harvey was THE story today. Yankees looked like little leaguers against his stuff. CC...... could be 4th starter. Ugh! Hitting will be an issue. Hey. It's only spring training. LOL
Thanks man...leave Tuesday, getting my fill of baseball before experiencing the totalitarian state that NY and CA aspire towards, lol!
Couple thoughts on CC. Going back to his last full season 2013, I think it's certainly legitimate to question whether he will ever be any better than a decent #3 or #4 (or worse?) pitcher. But it IS only his 2nd start in ST, hasn't pitched since last May and having his fastball at 94 mph is very significant as he obviously needs to work on his rhythm, control and location. If he has regained a "good" fastball, we'll find out soon enough if he has also improved his control and location issues. CC is a wild card......very much so. He can be mediocre or worse, or he could be a difference maker in this team's chances of getting close to, or actually making the playoffs. X-factor......can he, or does he have "a couple" of good years left? We WILL find out, lol.
I thought Pirela was an infielder (2B). Girardi likes players who can field more than one position, except the Big Names on the team. So, he puts this promising talent into the OF. Now the kid has a concussion after ramming into the outfield wall and may be put on the IR. Has Pirela ever played the OF before and is this another Girardi experiment? I thought Pirela had a good chance to make this club. Well, this experiment is over.
With the weak hitting Ryan due to make the team I doubt the strong hitting Pirela would have made the team anyway. Yeah I know, I don't get it either.
...Pirela has played many many games in the OF...he was simply playing as hard as he could on the play he was injured on.
Hello....the speed of his fastball means nothing....its the delta to the speed of other pitches that release the same way and his pitch location, location, location! 94 out over the plate is a >5 era gas can. Are we typing English Ron?
Tough break for the kid, hope he'll be okay soon enough. Funny thing - looking at his last year at AAA, his few September games last year and into this ST, he might be, could be the best hitter on this team. Oops....yeah, I did say it, lol
...like Joe said, you just never know how guys respond and how long they take to recover from a concussion...but yeah, I like the kid and hope he makes it back...nice to see some of the young bloods doing well.
