Colorado man shoots himself after eating marijuana candy Video by ktnv.com By Joyce Lupiani. CREATED Mar 26, 2015 A 23-year-old man from Colorado killed himself while on a family vacation, and his mom is blaming it on edible marijuana. According to CBS Denver, Luke Goodman and a cousin purchased $78 worth of marijuana edibles on Saturday. Goodman reportedly consumed several pieces of peach tart candy that contained 10mg of the active ingredient in marijuana. The recommended dose is just one piece of candy. Several hours later, Goodman's cousin said that he became "jittery" and "pretty weird and relatively incoherent." When family members left him alone, Goodman retrieved a gun that he usually carried for protection and shot himself. Goodman's mother is blaming the drugs. She says her son had no signs of depression or suicidal thoughts. “It was 100 percent the drugs,” she said. “It was completely because of the drugs — he had consumed so much of it.” His cousin also says that he believes the drugs are to blame. This is not the first death in Colorado to be blamed on marijuana. A 19-year-old Wyoming college student jumped to his death from a Denver hotel balcony a year ago. His friends said that he was also rambling incoherently after eating a marijuana cookie. Richard Kirk of Denver is facing murder charges after he shot his wife last year. His wife called 911 before she died and said that her husband had eaten marijuana candy and prescription medication and was hallucinating. Goodman's mother says edible marijuana should be removed from store shelves. Recreational use of marijuana became legal in Colorado in November 2012.
In other news.... http://www.mces.org/pages/suicide_fact_alcohol.php Alcohol is involved over a quarter of all suicides in the US (approximately 7500 per year). Suicide is 120 times more prevalent among adult alcoholics than in the general population. Alcohol abusers have higher rates of both attempted and completed suicide than non-abusers. More than one-third of suicide victims used alcohol just prior to death. How is alcohol use related to suicidal risk? Alcohol increases impulsivity and decreases inhibition. It increases negative self-image and decreases self-esteem; deepens depression and social isolation; and rises with the amount and length of time alcohol is consumed. Alcohol use fosters either/or and all or nothing thinking, and a lower concern for the future consequences of one’s actions. Many suicide attempts occur during binge drinking. Among those who are alcohol dependent, 18% complete suicide. Alcohol plays a major role in suicides among elders and veterans. In suicides associated with alcohol misuse men account for 80% of the victims, women for 20%. Alcohol use is also often a factor in suicidal behavior among male teens.
Chicken and egg. Did the drugs cause the suicide - or did he scarf the drugs because he was planning a painful death for himself?
well, as has been argued here, gender has nothing to do with genitalia, so this gender neutral person is not killing its self, simply opted for a a post term abortion
So he had several 10mg candies, so that's at least 30mg. For myself, when I want to have fun I eat 2.5mg, more and it stops being relaxing. So 30mg is 12 times what I would take. I actually think the edible dosages are a problem. Most of them come in 5 or 10mg pieces and people who are new don't realize how much stronger eating is than smoking. In fact, your body actually breaks it down to a different drug, one which while eaten is mildly hallucinogenic. No matter how much I smoke, I can never get as high as from one 5mg edible. It's a problem with no regulation, and I think it's going to hurt the pro marajuanna cause in the long run. I know someone who makes M gumdrops and hers are labeled 1 - 4 for strength so people don't go overboard, with the #4 being something I enjoy, around 2.5mg I would guess. Those are dosages that are more responsible.
