Another guy that fits that 3-D mold, but might have a bit more upside, is a young Frenchie, Timothe Luwawu. If Anderson is a Wes-clone, is this guy a Batum clone?
The big difference is that Hernangomez is a legit post player. He has his flaws (conditioning, lateral quickness) but he's still very young and is all upside. Here's a decent write up:
High IQ who can really defend the post. Even though he's under contract until 2017, I have him #1 on my draft board. I like Justin Anderson but in terms of ceiling he's a lateral move from Allen Crabbe. Coming out as a Junior as well, Crabbe had better numbers across the board than Anderson. Both have great size: 6'6" with 6'11" wingspans.
SheridanHoops: "And if disaster strikes and LaMarcus Aldridge leaves as an unrestricted free agent (some are saying that scenario is more likely than Aldridge has led people to believe), Looney is the type of player who can step right in and be an NBA starter from the get-go."
In the lotto you can have a lot of different options, you know who's likely to be there. In the 20's, like us, I think you can reach a bit on a prospect. The guy you get here likely wont make an impact or play a big role for a few years. My early draftboard ranking for pick #23: 1 - Willy Hernangomez 2 - Robert Upshaw 3 - Christian Wood (or Bobby Portis if he slips) 4 - Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (low as I don't think he drops this far) 5 - Timothe Luwawu
Upshaw is nice. He dominated the paint at UW. You just have to weigh whether you can reform a guy who has been kicked off multiple teams for drug use. From what I've read it wasn't just a little mary jane either. Hope he's not another Roy Tarpley.
There is a 99.9% that he goes undrafted - 19 years old | 7'2" | 290 lbs. The language barrier has prevented him from being eligible (grades? tests?) so he was forced to enter this year. He can't be worse than Ha Seung-Jin or Peter John Ramos:
