    1/8.5
    2/16
    3/21
    4/24

If some team offers him a lot, I wish him the best but, bye.

Wow--those seem really low. You clearly don't believe there's much chance of him coming back to form.

I just don't see it. His passion and locker room presence would be there but I think his play on the floor will not be his normal 16/4/3 with good defense. I want as much flexibility as possible on this team, giving a near max contract to a player nearing 30, who isn't even a star, coming off a HUGE injury is just insane.

I let Wes walk at anything over 10 mill, period.

I'd do everything to land one of these players:

    DeAndre
    Middleton
Tobias (probably resulting in trading Batum)

I don't know if the numbers work, but I'd rather see those guys making 10+ mill as blazers over the next 4 years than Wes.

His injury really sucks for many different reasons. And one of those is the possible "disrespect" he could get with the Blazer offer. If the Blazers are cautious then they will offer an amount that Wes will see as a slight. If another team offers Wes that same exact deal.....he won't be as offended. The Blazers can't win in this situation unless they offer him the amount they would have before the injury and hope for the best.

I think they do this, but with a team opt out in the case he can't come back like he says he will: "better than ever" . If Wes truly believes that he can, then he should be willing to accept the clause. A two year opt out is more than fair.

I think this GM who does things by default and who pretty much has a blank check to do whatever he needs to do keep the ship afloat will give one dollar more thanWes's highest offer and will end up luring him back in. Wise or not.

Supposedly Khris Middleton will get "Chandler Parsons money" - which is 3 years, $45M. Wes is a step down numbers-wise from Middleton, but then again, was on a better team. I think teams in search of FA shooting guards will have this list:

    1. Khris Middleton (he's at the top because of size, youth and offensive versatility)
    2. Danny Green
    3. Wesley Matthews

So it kind of depends how many teams are out there looking.

If LA is coming back, then I say anything up to Chandler Parsons money. Not saying he'll be worth it in the course of his contract, but that's not all what you're paying for. You're paying to reward loyalty, to pay back Wes for being slightly underpaid and for giving his all, and to signal to every future FA that you're a franchise that takes care of its own.

For as bad as Milwaukee is every year, there always seems to be a player that we want to poach from them.
Sanders, Anteokounmpo, Henson, Knight, Jennings........now Middleton. It shows you how tough it is to turn it a round even with good young talent.

Yep! Some people need to step into reality and step out of the fan favorite fantasy league.

Exactly my thoughts on the subject. He's a role player at best at his age coming off a devastating injury.

No more than 3 years at 22 mil.

If we sign LMA and he comes to management and says "Match whatever Wes gets" then I sign Wes no matter what. If this is before we work things out with LMA then I tell him to go get an offer and bring it back to us otherwise i'd offer.
    1y - 13m
    2y - 25m
3y - 35 Team option for the third
    4y - 44 Team option for fourth

I think Wes comes back just fine, not worried about how he will look after his injury at all. Its going to take him a good part into next season to fully look like Wes again. Id even offer that to him if LMA leaves and then look to move him early after next years FA and Wes type players are suddenly getting 17m a year contracts.

I expect him to have a poor year next season but regain much of his form two and three years from now. Problem is at that age he'll be on the wrong side of 30 and declining. My offers to fully guarantee his deal would be

    1yr - $9 mil
    2yr - $22 mil
    3yr - $32 mil
    4yr - $42 mil

Now if he wants a nonguatanteed deal where he has to prove he's regained his previous form I'd offer something such as 50% more, which could be as much as $60 million. But the Blazers could cut him. I will be shocked if another team even matches the above amounts on a fully guaranteed deal. Most teams just won't want to take the gamble.

I could see a team such as Philly doing something really crazy where they offer him a max contract but with all sorts of nonguatantees and escape clauses. They try to sell him on being the key of transforming one of the worst teams to a playoff club. Then he either lives up to the deal and they have an asset to potentially trade for a pick or he doesn't and he has value as a nonguaranteed contract. The max contract for next season doesn't matter to them whereas the Blazers and most contenders don't have enough space under the luxury tax for such a bold move. The Cavs did a bit of a similar deal for Bynum years ago. Even though he never got healthy they then traded him for Luol Deng at the deadline so Chicago could save money.

He will be 32 in the 4th year of his contract. It differs with everyone, but you are right guards do seem to peek around 30. (That was Clyde's best year) But they still are playing pretty well at 32. Still comes back to how well he comes back from his injury.

Great thread Plat, I think I would offer a similar contract.

CJ seems like he could be our guy going forward, and while I would be stoked to have him back, but I see him getting better offers elsewhere, and coming off of an injury I've got to think that money will be a huge factor when he makes his decision about where he will be playing next season.

    I think something like:
    1 ~ $13M
    2 ~ $22M
    3 ~ $30M
    4 ~ $38M

I think the uncertainty of the injury recovery will keep other teams from throwing exorbitant money at him, likely no more than 8 or 9 a year to start. I think he will be signed late in the process to, teams will want every last day they can get to test his recovery.
