I think Kaman is the next shoe to fall. There are a few teams wanting to shave some salary either to get under the cap or save money to spend on their own. OKC is one. After adding Vonleh and Plumlee I don't see a spot for Kaman really and his value IMO is more about what we can bring back rather than simply saving more cap space. We can take back up to $7.5 for him which could save a team $6.5.
There's definitely a movement to get younger all around. Kaman has trade value and looks like he's the odd man out going forward. I think he'd be a good assistant big man coach.
A lot of teams need backup centers. Miami is one. Denny mentioned Luol Deng and I like the idea of picking him up. Not sure if we could sign and trade Freeland and add Kaman in a deal for him. Tobias Harris from Orlando is another free agent worth looking at.
Kaman is a good value when you look at his salary vs his production. A nice piece off the bench, though I think he needs to force his shot less.
Ok so... He has to be waived before the end of this month for the non guaranteed part of his contract to fall off.
Trading Kaman for a player under contract doesn't make sense. If another team wants to get out of a players contract we can take the whole thing in cap space which a trading partner would like even more. If the Blazers need every million of cap space for free agents we can send Kaman and maybe Hendersons deal to philly for a 2nd round pick to get out of their guaranteed money. I agree in that it's likely Kaman contract is cut but first order will be where the big free agents agree to go. No sense in cutting or trading Kaman until July 9th at the earliest.
That's not a bad idea. Now suggest some. Ooh - I just had a horrible thought: Chase Budinger.... Please, no - we've suffered enough, surely?
Where did you hear that's the date of his guarantee? I can't remember where but I heard it was late July. Guarantees can have any date the team and player agree to when writing the contract and I thought Neil set it up as late July just to give the Blazers this extra flexibility.
someone had posted an article that showed his and I think Caron Butlers dates as being June 30th. The article even mentioned it as being an odd date.
it can also be negotiated. Webster re-negotiated his with MIN from June 30 to July 15, iirc, to help MIN try to get Batum.
I would rather waive Kaman and have the cap space than that scenario. Budinger couldn't even get many mins or games on MIN roster last year and when he did it was underwhelming. Aim higher....
